An Unfinished Task: Part 6 Disclaimer: I wish I owned CCS but alas I don't own it. It's A.N. Gomen, minna-san for taking so long to come out with such a short chapter, but I've unfortunately been really busy lately with school work and last weekend was also AWA so I couldn't work on this then either. I had originally intended for this chapter to be longer, but I guess it's better to get out a short chapter than nothing at all ne? Though AWA was really fun and I saw this guy with an awesome Sakura costume on. ::sighs:: If only I can get that good of a costume for next year. BTW for those of you that have not read the previous chapters they can be found at http://fanfiction.net/master.cfm?action=Directory-AuthorProfile&UserID=18865 ***************************** Sakura sat staring idly out of her window and sighed. Syaoran had been back for over two months now and thanks to him her calculus grade had improved greatly, but unfortunately her courage hadn't. Sadly she realized the more time she spent with him the deeper she fell in love with him. At first she refrained from telling him because she was worried that maybe if she did tell him that she might just be harboring old feelings for him. Syaoran had changed in eight years and so had she so how could she be certain that she really did still love him? But as she started being around him more she realized that despite how much they had changed her feelings for him had remained the same, but how could she be sure that he still loved her? Sakura was scared. She didn't want him to reject her when she confessed her feelings for him and so she kept quiet. She wanted to tell him and she wanted him to hold her and kiss her like she had seen other couples do. She remembered when they had accidentally kissed and the feeling still thrilled her. Sakura was hopelessly in love, but she just didn't have the courage to tell him. Tomoyo-chan had realized that Sakura still loved Syaoran immediately. Once she had returned from her date with Soujiro-kun, she had asked Sakura about Syaoran. For months now Tomoyo had gently encouraged Sakura trying to get her to confess her feelings for Syaoran, but every time Sakura had tried, she lost her courage. "No more of this," she told herself firmly. Tomorrow I'll tell him. Tomorrow Sakura was meeting Syaoran in his room for him to tutor her and Sakura was determined to tell him then. ***************************** Sakura sat in Syaoran's room biting her lip in frustration. 'Why can't I just come out and tell him?' she asked herself. She was supposed to be doing her calculus homework, but she couldn't concentrate on her work. The numbers jumbled up in her mind and the more she tried the more hopeless it became. Her mind was too occupied with confessing her feelings to Syaoran. She cast a surreptitious glance towards him and accidentally caught his eyes. Her cheeks flushed as she turned quickly away hoping that he hadn't caught her looking at him. Syaoran sighed warily as he turned to Sakura and asked her, "Is something wrong?" Sakura had seemed unusually preoccupied the entire tutoring session and Syaoran wanted to know what was bothering her. He hoped it was nothing serious. He hated seeing her beautiful face so anxious. It had been over two months since he had been back and he still had not gotten up the nerve to tell her his feelings. It was beginning to frustrate him and to make matter's worse Sakura was becoming closer friends with that guy. He was afraid. He didn't want to lose Sakura to that jerk, but he was also scared of rejection. The jerk was certainly clever and was moving purposely slow, but Syaoran knew that it would only be a matter of time before Christian asked her out and if she said yes, then he knew all his hopes would be dashed. 'I have to tell her,' he decided, 'Just not today.' "It's nothing." Sakura replied. Glancing sadly at him. Syaoran caught her sad look and asked her once again, "What's wrong? You can tell, or don't you trust me?" "Iie...it's not that. I do trust you. It's just I don't know how to say it." Sakura replied sadly. "Say what?" Syaoran asked a confused expression on his face. 'Come on you can do it Sakura!' Sakura told herself silently as she took a deep breath, "I..." "Syaoran! Hey can you help me with some math homework?" Christian yelled as he threw open the door to see a madly blushing Sakura, "Oh Sakura-san you're here too? I'm sorry am I interrupting anything?" "Ah...no. Syaoran-kun was just giving me my weekly tutoring session." Sakura replied as she sighed. She was so close. If only Christian-kun hadn't walked in, then she would have had the chance to tell Syaoran, but since Christian-kun was here now she couldn't anymore. Turning back to her homework she said, "We're almost done. Just let me finish working on this problem and we'll be done." "Oh you don't need to leave. You're welcome to come over whenever you want to. Your lovely presence makes this room much brighter, ne Syaoran?" Christian suggested as he cast a challenging glance towards Syaoran. Syaoran merely glared back at him. "It's okay. I'm done now. Ne, Syaoran-kun is this right?" Syaoran turned around to face her and looked over her shoulder at her work. He nodded his head as he wondered what had been bothering her. She was just about to tell him when that jerk walked in. Syaoran was really beginning to hate his roommate. Not only was the guy trying to hit on Sakura every chance he got, but he was also doing it right in front of Syaoran too. "Well, I'll get going now. Tomoyo-chan's probably waiting for me to go make dinner." Sakura said as she packed up her books and left. Syaoran sat at his desk watching her leave and cursed Christian for his timing. He didn't know what was bothering Sakura, but it had to have been important to upset her so much. He glared as Christian turned to him and asked, "How about my math problem?" "Do it yourself." Syaoran said through gritted teeth as he picked up is homework and stomped out of the room. He needed to take a walk. Things were not going well between he and Sakura. He only had a year to confess his feelings to her and get her to agree to marry him and he had already wasted two months doing nothing. He wished that he had the nerve to tell her how he felt about her before it was too late. If he let her go to that jerk then he would never forgive himself. "I'll tell her tomorrow," he told himself. ***************************** A week passed and neither Sakura nor Syaoran managed to get a chance to revel their feelings for each other. Every time they tried someone or something interrupted them. If they were in Syaoran's room, Christian had a habit of barging in at exactly the wrong moment and if they were in Sakura's room Kero-chan had an annoying habit of interrupting them. Other than during their study sessions there was really never any time that they were alone together. It seems almost as if someone was purposely trying to keep the apart. Sakura sat at her window starring out at the stars and sighed. She was frustrated. Every time she had managed to work up her nerve to tell Syaoran something happened. She was starting to get worried that if she didn't act soon, he would start going out with someone else and she would have lost her chance. She saw how all the girls would flock around him or follow him around after practice. She knew it was only a matter of time before he began paying attention to one of them. They were all so pretty and popular, she knew she couldn't compare to them. She had noticed some of the hostile glares that some of the girls had sent her because she was friends with Syaoran. "If only they could understand," she thought. "Being his friend is not enough anymore. I want him to hold me and love me as more than a friend. I want to be the most important person to him as he is to me." Sakura heard the door to her room open and turned around to smile at Tomoyo-chan as she entered the room. Tomoyo smiled sadly back at her friend. She could see that Sakura was worried. She had tried helping set up situations where Sakura and Syaoran could confess their feelings for one another, but nothing worked. She knew that both of them were getting frustrated and things couldn't go on the way they were much longer. Suddenly an idea came to her, she just prayed that Soujiro-kun would not be upset, but she was sure that he would be fine with it. He had even commented once about how good Sakura and Syaoran seemed for one another. Rummaging around in her purse she pulled out two tickets to a concert. "Sakura-chan, how would you like to go to a concert?" "Hoe?" "My mother gave me these two tickets for a concert, but unfortunately Soujiro-kun and I can't make it. Soujiro was going to go visit his grandparents that day and I promised to go with him. I would hate to see these go to waste. Would you like to have them?" "Hoe? But I wouldn't have anyone to go with. Why don't you try giving it to Chiharu-chan and Yamazaki-kun?" Sakura answered sadly. "Couldn't you invite Syaoran-kun?" Tomoyo suggested and then walking over to Sakura whispered in her ear, "I'm sure he'd love to go with you and it'll be a good chance for you to tell him how you feel." Sakura blushed and then looked at Tomoyo hopefully finally understanding what her friend was suggesting. Throwing her arms thankfully around Tomoyo she cried out, "Arigatou Tomoyo-chan! I'll go ask him now!" As Sakura rushed out of their room Tomoyo smiled and whispered under her breath, "Good luck, Sakura-chan." Sakura's bare feet pounded down the hallway as she rushed to Syaoran's room. Getting there she paused a few moments to catch her breath before knocking on the door. When Syaoran opened the door he found a breathless Sakura standing at in the hallway. "What's wrong?" "Tomoyo just gave me two tickets to a concert next Friday and I was wondering if you would like to go with me? If you're busy, I'll understand. I'll just give the tickets to Chiharu-chan." Sakura said in one breath while praying, "Please say yes. Please say yes." "I'll go." Syaoran said calmly though inside he was exuberant. "She invited me to go to a concert with her. Maybe I'll have a chance to tell her after the concert." He thought. "Honto? Yatta!" Sakura shouted as she threw her arms impulsively around Syaoran causing Syaoran's face to redden suddenly. "Ah...gomen." Sakura said blushing as she released him. "It's okay." Syaoran told her. "So next Friday, ne?" "Un. I have soccer practice until 6 so I'll meet you at the tree that we usually have lunch at 6:30." "Okay. Um...I guess I'll go tell Tomoyo the good news then. Ja ne, Syaoran-kun." Sakura said happily turning around to leave. Syaoran closed the door after Sakura left and turned around to see Christian standing behind him, "So Sakura-san has asked you to go to a concert with her huh?" "None of your business." Syaoran answered coldly. "Whatever. Just remember even though she may seem to like you better, I'm not going to give up." Christian announced. Syaoran glared back at him before, Christian left the room. As Christian left he smirked confidently as he thought, "I never give up little wolf. She will be mine even if you hold her heart." |
