FF VII: Interrupted by Fireworks

Wishes do come true
By Lisa

Disclaimer: Card Captor Sakura is not mine. It belongs to Movic, Nakayoshi,
Kodansha, Nelvana(shudder), and most of all, the talented ladies of CLAMP(And
anybody I have forgotten). I was listening to Shaoran's single, Ki ni naru
aitsu, for inspiration. Imagine if they animated the drama? That would be
sooo kawaii! I'd love to see Shaoran's face after receiving a compliment on
his looks by Sakura ^_^
Shaoran: Just shut up and get on with it!
Sakura: Oh, be nice.
Shaoran(blushing): Hai, Sakura-sama!!
Sakura(giggling):much better.

Italics denote thoughts, and towards the end, a flashback. Oh, Sakura and
Shaoran are about 15 in this story.

"Ahh…" Sakura sighed softly. The breeze was cool and refreshing today. She
was on her way home from school (on roller blades, of course). Oh, I'd better
get home, thought Sakura. Onii-chan will have a fit if the dishes aren't done
by the time he gets home…But its so nice out, I wanna skate longer…She
sighed and closed her eyes. Might as well enjoy it while I can. The wind
swirled around her hair playfully. However, she was brought out of her
reverie by a sudden jolt. "HOEEEE!!!" She had hit a rock. Sakura was
propelled forward. She landed on her ankle, and skidded to a stop on her
elbows. Fortunately she was wearing her elbow and kneepads, but her ankle was
in agony. She pulled herself to her knees. She could just hear Kero-chan now…
"How many times have I told you to PAY ATTENTION when you are
rollerblading??!!" She winced. Kero-chan was right. I really shouldn't
daydream so much, its bad for my health. She began to lift herself off of the
cold concrete. My gear should have protected me, she thought optimistically,
placing her right foot on the ground. So far, so good. She placed her left
foot on the ground. Her ankle gave out. "ITAI!" she cried out, landing on her
butt. A few tears welled in her eyes. So much for skating, she thought
unhappily. Better put on my shoes. She pulled her shoes out of her schoolbag
and put them on. Her ankle still hurt. Sakura sank back down to the ground,
warm tears threatening to fall. What should I do? Onii-chan is at practice,
then he has to work. Tomoyo-chan is on vacation with her mother, and Otou-san
is staying overnight at the excavation site. What should I do? The tears
began to fall. "Don't cry, Sakura! Zettai daijoubu dai yo, ne?" she said
aloud. But she wasn't quite sure if she meant it.
Wow, it's getting really cold out all of the sudden, thought
Shaoran as he pulled on his green winter coat. The wind swirled around his
hair (not that it mattered, it's always messy ^_^) Maybe I should put my
gloves on. I know they're in here somewhere, he thought as he rummaged
through his messy schoolbag. He heard a noise. He stopped rummaging and
looked up. "S-Sakura!" he gasped, almost silently. What is she doing here
now? It's getting pretty late, the sun is already setting. And she has no
coat on! Why is she sitting there like that? His mind raced (so did his
heart.) He took a deep breath. "Sakura!" he called out to the slouched
figure. She looked up abruptly. "Shaoran-kun!" His heart pounded as he looked
into eyes the color of emeralds, hair the color of autumn leaves… He could
feel the heat creeping up his neck as a blush manifested his face. He shook
his head like he often did. "Sakura, daijoubu?" he inquired as he ran over to
her. He knelt beside her weeping form. "I…I…was skating, and I wasn't paying
attention, and I hit a rock and went flying but now my ankle hurts and I
can't walk and…" "Whoa!" Shaoran cut her off. "one thing at a time, okay? I
can't understand you when you talk a mile a minute!" he said, smiling at her.
Sakura looked up and smiled at him. God, she's so cute. "Gomen ne,
Shaoran-kun. I'm just upset, that's all. I fell and I think I sprained my
ankle, and now I can't really walk. I'd call Onii-chan, but he's at work by
now…" Shaoran frowned. "What about Daidouji?" he asked. "I'd try her but
she's out on v-vacation…" she began to sniffle again. "Well, you could come
to my place for a little while, it's about a block away…" Shaoran began
uncertainly, his face red. "Hontou?!" exclaimed Sakura happily. Her eyes
brightened. "Arigato gozaimasu, Shaoran-kun! You are so great!" Sakura cried
as she threw her arms around his neck. Shaoran's face grew hotter. "Sakura,
you're so cold!" Shaoran exclaimed after he regained his composure. "Well, I
didn't think I would be out this late, so I didn't bring my coat." Shaoran
smiled at her. Silently he removed his own jacket. "Put this on, Sakura. I
have some gloves in my bag, too." Sakura frowned. "But then you'll be cold!"
she said, a hint of worry in her voice. He blushed again. She's worried about
me… "No I won't. So put this on, and not another word about it, okay?" "Hai.
And… arigato. You are so good to me, Shaoran-kun." She put on his coat and
gloves. Shaoran stood up and brushed off his knees. "Okay, I'll help you
up," said Shaoran, offering his hand apprehensively. He tried not to let his
knees buckle as she placed her hand in his. Sakura cried out in pain. "Lean
on me, okay?" said Shaoran. She put most of her weight on his shoulders.
"Better?" he asked. "Lots. Thanks again, Shaoran-kun." She studied his face.
She got a look of concern. "Shaoran-kun, daijoubu? Your face is so red…do you
have a fever?" Shaoran looked ahead. "A… that is, no! It's just chilly, and
the wind is making my cheeks red!" Lame. Really, couldn't you think of
anything better? Shaoran silently scolded himself. "If you say so."
They began to walk to his apartment. Shaoran stole a glance at Sakura's
determined face. His heart beat faster. "Kirei…" he said softly. "Hoe?"
Sakura looked at him quizzically. "A…Ano!" he began, totally flustered. C'mon
think… "The sunset!" he blurted out. "It's really pretty, don't you think?"
Sakura looked out into the horizon. The sky was filled with pinks and
purples, and the clouds seemed to glow. "It is pretty," she said with a
smile. Not as pretty as you. Shaoran looked at her again. The sunlight danced
off her auburn tresses, tinting them with gold. "Look, Shaoran-kun! The first
star! Make a wish, okay?" she cried out excitedly, snapping him back into
reality. He smiled and closed his eyes. I wish that I could find the courage
to tell you how I feel, and I wish that we could stay together like this
forever. He looked longingly at Sakura. "So, what did you wish for, Sakura?"
he asked. "Himitsu desu! If I tell, It won't come true!" Shaoran smiled. Her
youthful naivety was endearing. "Well then, I'd better not tell you my wish,
huh?" "Nope!" beamed Sakura. If only…if only… "Well, here we are!" said
Shaoran. Sakura glanced at the building in front of them. "Oh yeah! I
remember your place! I visited you when you were sick, remember?" she asked
with a smile. "…yeah," Shaoran said thoughtfully. How could I forget? That
day is engraved in my memory. I still have the cup you made the honey milk in.
He looked down a bit and felt his cheeks grow hotter.
Shaoran lived on the second floor, but they took the elevator anyway. He
was extremely nervous, and his palms were sweating. He glanced at her from
the corner of his eye. She looked up at him. "Nani?" she inquired. His heart
skipped a beat. "Nande mo nai!" he said quickly. I must have been staring. He
cleared his throat. "Well, here we are." Shaoran opened the door and guided
Sakura onto the couch in the living room. Sakura giggled. "What??" demanded
Shaoran. "Your house is just so…green!" she said between giggles. He looked
around and did a mental check. Green carpet, green couch, green walls… yep,
very green. He looked down sheepishly. "Green is my favorite color," he said
matter of factly. "I know. You told me when we were kids, remember?" Shaoran
felt yet another blush manifest his face. She remembers the smallest things
about me. She is just so thoughtful. That's why I l- Shaoran shook his head
quickly. Even thinking about the… "l" word made him so flustered. Shaoran,
you're hopeless. He looked down at Sakura again. She looked concerned. "The
phone is right here. Try your house, and I'll go get some ice for your ankle,
okay?" he said with a smile. "Un!" Sakura nodded. In the kitchen, Shaoran was
deep in thought. Maybe today is the day. I have no more excuses, and what can
happen this time? There will be no interruptions. But what if she doesn't
like me back? Or…His thoughts were interrupted by a sobbing sound. He
gathered the ice and went to Sakura. "What's wrong?" he asked, placing the
ice on her swollen ankle. She looked at him with those big green eyes and
sniffed a bit. "Onii-chan isn't home yet. What if he stays at Yukito-san's
place? Where will I go?" her voice began to waver. Shaoran's heart melted. He
gulped. "…you can stay here if you want. I'll sleep on the couch or
something. You can tell your brother that you were at Daidouji's house." He
looked down apprehensively, not knowing what to expect. "Hontou?" Sakura
asked, eyes sparkling. "…if you want, that is." He said, turning his head so
Sakura wouldn't see his burning cheeks. "Oh, arigato, Shaoran-kun! You are so
nice!" Sakura wrapped her arms around him. "…it's nothing, really. Anything
for you…" Shaoran stiffened. Uh-oh. He looked at Sakura. Her cheeks were
slightly pink. "Arigato gozaimasu…" she said shyly. Shaoran smiled. He sat
down next to her and took several deep breaths. He looked straight ahead. "Is
there anything I can get you? Tea? A snack?" Sakura shook her head. "No
thanks. Hey, have any good movies?" Shaoran thought for a minute. "Maybe. Let
me check." He started digging around his green (of course) video cabinet. He
tried to lean over the case so Sakura couldn't see the collection of Sakura
tapes Tomoyo made him. "Hmmm… The Matrix, um, Ruroni Kenshin, Dragonball Z…"
He glanced at her. "…Dragon Ball Z?" she asked, tilting her head and raising
an eyebrow playfully. He looked down quickly. "Um, let's see what else we
got! X the Movie…" "Ooh! Let's watch that, okay? I love Clamp works!! They
are soooo suteki!!" (of course Sakura likes Clamp!) "Are you sure? It's
kinda…violent, ya know."(Indeed it is, minna-san!) "But I've got you to
protect me right?" she said, grinning. Shaoran's heart pounded. "…yeah, your
knight in shining armor…" he trailed off, keeping his eyes on the tape. He
popped it in the VCR. "Wow, there sure are a lot of flower petals in X!"
Sakura exclaimed. Shaoran smiled a bit. "Don't let that fool you." "Hoe?"
Shaoran was so nervous. He was glad that Sakura was paying attention to the
movie. May be I should tell her. Now is as good a time as any, right? He
gulped. "Sakura…" he started. He glanced at her. He sweatdropped. Sakura had
her eyes closed. She must be sleeping. Why can't I tell her already! But… she
is just like an angel. He smiled lovingly at her. Her head rested on his
shoulder. So beautiful… He sighed softly. "Why is it so hard for me? Every
time I look at you, my mind goes blank and my heart races." He swept a lock
of hair away from her face. He placed his head on hers. She smells
like…flowers. He stroked her soft hair gently. "If only I could tell you how
my heart yearns to be near you. You just do something to me. I've never felt
this way before…" He took another breath, and her intoxicating aroma filled
his nostrils. "Even when I treated you badly, you didn't care. I was so
hardened by my training, feeling so unloved, just some kid to help my family
achieve their goals." He looked down at her sadly. "But you…you still treated
me as a friend. You broke through the ice surrounding my heart…and stole it."
He looked sad for a moment. "I remember the first time I blushed over you.
The first of many…I live by myself. REALLY??!! And you do the cooking and
dishes and laundry all by yourself??! …uh huh. WOW, you're AMAZING!! …but
isn't it lonely, being all alone? Shaoran sighed. "Nobody ever cared enough
to ask me that. It was just expected of me." He stroked her hair again.
"…aishiteru, Sakura." He felt relieved to finally say it out loud. "Do you
mean that, Shaoran?" He stiffened. Shaoran's mouth hung open.
"…I…I…I…thought you…" Sakura placed a finger to his lips. He closed his
mouth immediately. "Do you really mean that, Shaoran?" she asked again
softly. She called me Shaoran not Shaoran-kun…"…yes, every word, and more."
He looked down again, hopeful and nervous. "You know that I like Yukito-san a
lot, don't you?" Sakura smiled at him again. Oh god here it comes I am not
ready for this… "…demo, sekai ichi daisuki ga…Shaoran." His mouth was agape.
Could it be, could she really- "You want to know what I wished for, Shaoran?"
she inquired gently. He was still speechless. "…I wished that I could tell
you my feelings…and that you would return them." His mouth opened slightly,
as if to say something, but no sound came out. Sakura looked up at him, her
cheeks pink. "…and if what you said is really true, Shaoran…you do feel the
same way. Anata…aishiteru." His heart leaped. He smiled widely, and looked
into Sakura's liquid green eyes. She placed her arms around him and pulled
him closer. His heart raced. She closed her eyes, and kissed him. Shaoran was
in shock. Her lips were achingly soft, so inviting… He closed his eyes and
lost himself in the sweet kiss. He wanted to engrave it in his memory. When
their kiss broke, Shaoran was grinning ear to ear. Sakura placed her head on
his chest. "…ne, Shaoran… will you stay with me forever?" Sakura asked in a
voice just barely above a whisper. "…of course. Itsumademo suki dakara." She
blushed and snuggled closer. But one thing bugged Shaoran. "Ne, Sakura…"
"Hai, Shaoran?" "Were you pretending to sleep before?" Sakura looked at him
and grinned sheepishly. "….yes." Shaoran was puzzled. "Why?" he asked, now
completely confused. Sakura looked back down and ran her finger on his arm.
"…I wanted an excuse to lean on you, and I didn't know how you felt about me,
so…" Shaoran smiled. "You never need an excuse for that, Sakura." They both
blushed. Shaoran placed his arms around her and lost himself in the warmth
their bodies generated. He smiled gently. Wishes really do come true, he
thought, just before drifting off into what would be the best night's sleep
in his life.

Shaoran:I think you should scroll back up and read the last part again.
Lisa(whacks Shaoran on the head with one of those fans that anime characters
pull out of nowhere):Sit down before you get a nosebleed. So anyway, this is
my first try at writing fanfiction. This story is based on the manga, where
it seems that Shaoran is all alone. In the anime, his family seems to
genuinely care for him(somewhat, at least), sending a butler, staying in
contact. His sisters are like Nakuru times four! Oh, and as for the video
collection, I wasn't really sure what Shaoran would watch, so I just wrote
those down. I added the tapes of Sakura cause I imagine that they would be
there. Oh, X the movie is pretty cool. The effects are great! It isn't like
the manga, though. Everyone except Kamui dies in the movie! I am so sad! So,
back on topic, PLEASE tell me what you think of my little story, ok? But be
nice, okay? Constructive criticism, please. Don't tell me it sucks. I have my
own older brother for that. How old am I you ask? Old enough to drive a car,
that's all you need to know. A big 70's New Yorker. My email is
snowtigr56@aol.com. Feedback! ONEGAIII! 11/2000
