Chapter 3

this scene is has been done in movies over and over, but I love it.(adventures in babysitting, sleeping, the herbal essences comercial)

“I’m like Estella, I like to reel it in and then spit it out, I’m frustrated by your ography, and I am frightened.... “ Adia sang to Alanis Morrisette as she packed her bags to leave for San Fransisco for a few days, then they were coming back. I was nearly Easter and she had no idea what to do with herself. She would have to go back to Orlando and be with N Sync, but she could invite her mom down or she could spend it with Mike. She couldn’t do it with both because she knew they would kill eachother. They hated eachother, always have. Every since she could remember anyway. As much thought as Adia had put into this situation in the last few days, all she could manage to think of at that moment was the uncomfortable bunk that she couldn’t even heave herself into. They hadn’t gotten her a step ladder yet so she still had trouble getting into her ugly gray and rainbow bunk. She sighed as her mix tape changed to Love Will Find A Way by Christina Aguilera. (Okay peeps if you have Christina Aguilera turn it on because it really sets the mood. If not you should be ashamed of yourself, it is a good cd! j/k)

Adia took her toothbrush using it as a microphone and started lip synching to it. She started dancing around the room. She ran over to the stereo and cranked it up. Mike walked into the hotel room and stared at her skeptically. He rolled his eyes and shook his head, still smiling. Adia looked at him with defiance and kept doing what she was doing. Chris came and stood next to Mike. He smiled at Adia and went over to her. He saw her sensor excell on the bed, grabbed the light green shaver and joined in. Joey and JC followed soon. Lance came to the door and brought the camcorder that they kept around to remember tour memories. Justin came in the room and looked at Mike. Mike just shook his head. Dakota followed Justin and all of them started goofing off.

Put your trust in me, and I’ll make you see....No the rain won’t last forever, find a way to make it better, As long as we can stand together, love will find a way. We’re gonna make a new tomorrow, Say good bye to tears and sorrow, Better listen when I say, love will find a way.

Adia pleaded Mike with her perfect green eyes. Mike just shook his head again. Adia put on her blue security jacket and lip syched the solo lines by herself. She pulled the collar of her jacket up in a mock Elvis position.

Mike sighed Elvis would be turning in his grave

Eventually they all pulled Mike into the room and he started dancing, The second the music stopped, A voice came from the hallway.

“This doesn’t look like packing to me,” Johnny smiled, “Oh and by the way, we have a new bus.”

Dear Jackie, Babe, this just isn’t working anymore

Justin sighed and crumpled up the piece of paper

Dear Jackie,

Jackie, I love you so much, but

This was it, Justin knew it. He knew that Jackie was feeling the same way. He just didn’t know how to tell her that he felt the same way. He loved her, but sometimes love’s not enough. He lowered his head and sighed. He didn’t know how to react to how he was feeling. He just wanted to lift the weight off his shoulders. He wanted to be eighteen, he wanted to uncomplicate his life. It would be Easter soon and he would have to deal with her sooner or later.

“Wow, I didn’t realise that the bus was this big,” Adia said as she walked into the back of the bus the TV room.

“Adia, you mean to tell me that you’ve been practically living in this bus for three weeks, and you don’t even notice how big it is?” Justin asked licking around in his mouth trying to dislodge a piece of popcorn kernel from his teeth.

She gave him a look “don’t try me curly boy, I can take you on.”

“Oh really?” he asked standing up.

“Babe I am the one guarding your little pussy ass so I suggest that you refrain from issuing any challenges.”

“Ouch. Babe, you’re just guarding me because you need to protect me from teen girls, nothing more.”

“ ‘Babe’, that may be what I have to guard you from, but I have another hard job too. I have to focus a lot of effort keeping myself from beating your ass.”

Chris looked up from the TV. “Kinky.”

Adia rolled up the magazine in her hand and hit him over the head with it. “Look Justin,” she began, “Let me just leave it at that I have a gun and you don’t.”

Justin thought about it for a few seconds, “Good point. But what can you do without the gun?”

Chris smiled, “I have an idea.”

“Okay, here’s the rules, each skill testing job is worth 2 if you win, 1 if you tie, 0 if you loose,” Chris began addressing Adia and Justin, “You run over to the bunks and climb up them as fast as you can. You have to jump down and land on the whoopie cushon from the top bunk or you have to start again.”

Quite the audience had already formed. Mike, Johnny, Dakota, Lance and Joey were all watching. JC was of course asleep.

“After the bunks,” Chris continued, “Run to the sinks Adia, you take the kitchen one, Justin you take the bathroom. The pipes are all screwed up in both of them. There’s two sets of tools there. You have to fix the pipes and put them back to normal. Then, you have to take exhibit ‘A’,” he pointed at two cabbage patch kids on the table, “We have supplied you with make-up. You have to make the cabbage patch kids pretty and Dakota will judge that. Look at exhibit ‘A’ again.

Chris picked up the nude doll and went over to the sink, he yanked the arm down and the doll did a fake peeing thing. “Your job is to stop the doll from peeing. You can’t take the water out. Next you two play three rounds of Mortal Combat, best of three wins. After that you have to come back to me and get a little piece of paper and do your next project, a scavanger hunt. First one to finish all of the tasks on the list and kicks over the bottle of pamolive wins. What do you think?” Chris asked finally.

Justin looked at Adia and smiled, “Let the games begin.”

You all ready for this?

”On your marks.... go!”

Adia and Justin both ran for the bunk beds. Just when Justin was about to jump um on them, she jumped on his shoulders and got up on the bed. She jumped on the whoopie cushion before Justin was even on the top bunk.

Justin wrenched the last pipe into place and turned on the water. It came squirting up into his face and he turned to off. He grabbed a towel and dried his face off. When he turned around to check what time it was, there was Adia, holding a connection in the pipe line and a wrench. Justin ran after her and pinned her down on one of the bunks in a room away from the guys.

He started tickleing her and her limbs were flying in thirty different directions. She pushed him off of her and ran into the kitchen and threw the wrench and pipe down on the floor giggling. Joey shook his head and put two etches on the pad under Adia’s name. Four for Adia, 0 for Justin.

“And Voila...” Justin said revealing the doll to the rest of the gang.

Dakota almost peed her pants laughing so hard. “Oh my god, I don’t think fisher price is interested in introducing maralyn manson the doll Justin!”

Adia turned around her doll head with perfect eyeshadow, lipstick, eyeliner and even a little earring piercing.

“So who wins Dacky?” Joey asked, not paying attention.

”Do you really need me to answer that?” she gave him a look.

“Haha! I beat you Adia!” Justin said as he jumped down on the pamolive container. Green dish soap exploded all over the kitchen.

Joey looked down at the score sheet and sighed. Adia six, Justin six. “No you didn’t Justin, it’s a tie.”

“HA! Tie goes to the one who’s outnumbered and with that ego of your I think I’m outnumbered by at least a thousand times.”

Justin just smiled, maybe she wasn’t so bad.

Adia and Justin fell down on the couch in his room laughing again for the fifth time that day.

“It’s a cabbage patch kid, I can’t believe you used a tampon! Maybe Len was wrong, maybe you can stop the bum rush,” Adia laughed.

“Adia, you are a freak man.”

“Hey I’m not a walking contradiction.”

“How am I a walking contradiction?”

“Well with your hair it looks like you’re contradicting natural sunlight.”

“It can’t be that bad Addy.”

“Addy?!” she asked, “Where did that come from?”

“I don’t know just popped out.”

She laughed and mimicked his voice, “I popped out singing. waaaaaaaaaaaa!”

“I really regret ever saying that on Rosie.”

“You should. It was corny as hell, it was funny though,” she said as she grabbed the TV remote and flicked through a few channels.

Ending up on MTV they watched a few music videos, talked and joked around.

Maybe Sun fairy’s not so bad after all Adia thought

”Adia!!!!” Joey, Lance and Chris said as they came running into the room as fast as they could.

“Guess what?” Chris said.

“God decided he was too strict and now there’s only nine commandments?” She asked her eyebrow going up.

“Nope,” Joey said smileing.

“Britney decided that little boobs are in style and she want reduction?” she tried.

“No.”

“Um Goofy and Minnie were caught making out at disneyland and now Mickey’s selling his dramatic story to the National Enquirer?”

JC walked in the room and held up a paper, “Well actually yeah, but Music of My heart was nominated for an oscar, so we’re performing at the academy awards.”

Adia jumped up right into Chris’ arms first and hugged him. “Oh my goodness that is so great you guys!”

She took turns hugging all of the guys, but when she went to hug Justin the bus stopped suddenly and she had to grip onto his shirt so she wouldn’t fall down. “Sorry,” she said a little flustered.

“Wait,” she bagan coyly, “Does that mean I get to dress up? I have to blend in you know.”

Justin and JC turned to her and smiled. As Adia’;s cell phone rang. She groaned when she saw the number on her call display.

She slapped on her nice face, “Hi Britney.”

“Hi Addy, guess what?” Britney asked excitedly.

“I don’t know, what?”

“Well, I heard you guys are going to the Oscars and I was asked to be a presenter, so since we’re both in San Francisco, I thought that we could go dress shopping down together.”

Adia walked around in various shoppes on the street after her salon apoinment, at which she died her hair dirty blonde, Britney told her she looked like a mirror image of Jennifer Lopez, Mike told her she looked better. Adia smiled when they said that. She wanted a nice dress, but she didn’t know exactly what. Mike had come with her to help her not loose her head with Britney around. Justin had agreed to join up with her later. She insisted on getting her dress without him there. He had to get a tux anyway, being the only member of N Sync without one. She couldn’t take a hard headed opinionated guy, neither of them could. Justin had gone with Joshua (one of the bodyguards) and the other guys were at the hotel with the other two bodyguards.

Adia wanted to go back to LA and shop for it, but Mike convinced her to try San Francisco. She couldn’t seem to find the right dress. Money wasn’t a problem, she had one hell of a savings.

Adia was just about to turn into Bloomy’s when she saw an old man laying on the street with an old ripped up hat laying in front of him. The man seemed to have fallen asleep. Britney leaned over and whispered in Adia’s ear.

“Some people just can’t go out and get a job can they Addy?”

Adia shrugged. She looked down at the hat and opened her purse. She set a fifty dollar bill in the hat and sighed, thinking of how it could easily be taken if the man was asleep. She leaned over and tapped the man on the shoulder. He woke up. She handed the fifty dollar bill to him and smiled. She just smiled in return and reached out to give her a hug. Britney scowled at her. Her opinion didn’t matter to Adia, for the first time in a long time Adia did something that made her feel good about herself.

As Mike followed the girls into the store he took one last glance back. The old man seemed to have dissapeared. The strange thing was that all of his clothes were left behind and a few purple sparkles swirled around in the air. He shook his head and sighed, I took to much cold medicine at lunch.

In Bloomingdale’s they walked through the clothing sections. Sometimes they had formal things, but most of the time there wasn’t much Adia glanced sideways and there was a parrot sitting in a cage, it’s eyes followed her wherever she went. She thought nothing of it, although the parrot’s stare was really kind of awkward. Britney layed her eyes on a black slender long backed dress. It was about two hundred dollars and it was beautiful, she went right up to the front counter and bought it.

A polite salesperson came up to Adia, “Can I help you miss?”

Adia looked down at the child tugging on her skirt. “No it’s alright, I’m just looking around, I’ll let you know if I need some help.”

“Okay,” she said as she walked in the other direction. The child was still tugging on her skirt.

“Mommy, I want to go home, why can’t we just go.”

She politely answered, “Honey mommy has to work so you can eat. There’s no other way that you can eat, so mommy has to work, do you understand babe?”

“BUT WHY!?” The child stomped off and the mother ran to follow it tripping over the base of a floor display. Adia quickly rushed over to help her up. Britney looked on.

A man ran over, who Adia assumed was the boss. The woman was already up, but Adia was picking up clothes.

“I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED DANNY, BUT YOU’RE FIRED. I WARNED YOU!” He yelled at the saleslady.

Adia quickly got up and spoke, “Sir, I knocked the floor display over,” she began in her most convincable voice. “I always have had two left feet. “I didn’t mean to I’m so sorry.”

He looked at her and smiled. “I’m sorry Danny. No big deal miss..”

“Rialto,” Adia finished for him.

“It’s okay Miss rialto, it happens all the time.”

Adia and Mike smiled. Miss Spears leaned over and whispered in Adia’s ear. “Adia, that was so nice. That was really sweet, I would never have thought of that.”

Adia smiled at the compliment, “Thank you. I was just really happy I could help.”

Britney, Mike and Adia waltzed out of the store.

The child looked up at the birdcage. “Mommy, sparkles,” he said in awe.

Adia was exhausted, she had walked through Bloomingdale’s, Sac’s, Macy’s and every other shop in San Francisco. The last shop on the block didn’t look very special. In fact it was quite to the contrary. It looked dismally cheap and in bad taste from the outside. Mike was just about to push the cross walk button when Adia stopped him.

“Mike, I want to take a look,” she said as her voice was caught in her throat.

Britney sighed, “Adia, I would not ever be seen in that shop! I love you girl, but I can’t go in there. Ick!” Adia groaned and looked at Mike. She didn’t know why she stopped him from pushing the crosswalk button. The windows were tinted purple and you couldn’t really see inside the shop. Shaking her head Adia walked into the shop. There was no one to be seen, but when she closed the door a bell rang. She immediately looked at the racks of clothes. They were so old that they had moth holes in them. A woman with a cigarette came into the room. She was thin, African American, and wore a bandana with purple skarkles pasted onto it. She had a long multicolored body dress on, she looked almost like a fortune teller. Politely, she approached Adia and Mike. Britney was waiting outside

”Is there someting special, you’re looking for?” the woman asked.

Adia sighed, “Yeah I actually need something formal, but it doesn’t seem that you carry that stuff.”

She looked Adia up and down. She brought her hands to Adia’s cheek and sighed. “My dear, you are an angel. I think I have something for you.”

She held Adia’s hand and brought her into the back room of the store. “I have been saving this dress for someone of your rare beauty to possess it,” she spoke dreamily. “It took me years of work.” Slowly, she took a key out of her pocket and walked over to a closet that had a lock on it. She inserted the key and turned it. Adia gasped as she opened the oak closet door. The dress was the most beautiful thing in the world. It was princess style, yet it didn’t puff out too big. It was lavender, white and sky blue. Satin was the fabric used, three layers on the skirt. The first layer was sky blue and it elegantly swept aside at the front to show the next layer, a gorgeous lavender silk. There was white tool layered onto the tiop of the skirt. Purple sparkles were pasted onto the tool. The front of the dress was sky blue and lavender. The back swooped low, but not too low. And lastly, the sleeves were hung on mid shoulder and were also made of tool. She didn’t care if it cost her a million dollars. She was in love.

Well what did you think? Part of this chapter is very similar to a proverb book I read when I was really young. I can’t remember what it was called. But if you do please inform me so I can give that story credit.
