A Clockwork Orange

"A Clockwork Orange" is one of Stanley Kubrick's best films, and my favorite by him. It revolves around a young man named Alex, whose favorite personal past times are rape, ultraviolence and Beethoven. Alex and his three "Droogs" love to go out at night and wreak havoc over his post-apocolyptic world. Everything seems like such a great set up for Alex till his friends turn against him and his experience with insanity begins. This movie is fantastic in every aspect. The directing is to die for, the editing couldn't be better, and the acting is phenominal. The way that Kubrick blends the sounds of Beethoven to a man being beaten half to death or a woman being gang raped is way past disturbing, but you find yourself so much in awe you don't notice what's happening. Malcolm McDowell played Alex, and it's too bad that he didn't have that great of a career after Orange, because he was really impressive. If you've never seen Kubrick before, and you decide to rent this movie, brace yourself. It's a wild ride for the human psyche. It was originally rated X, so that tells you something. The hardest thing to understand about the movie is the slang that Alex and his friends speak. Here's an example......."There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence."......Good luck.
