Archibald Campbell

This is our Grandfather Archibald Campbell. He went by Arch.
Eventually this page will have his legend written on it. I need to gather from Aunt Amy, and Aunt Eleanor and Ma some facts and perhaps some tall tales that have grown about him over the years.
My cousin Don Campbell Knight did his nursing school placement in God's Lake, and Aunt Eleanor worked at the Native Healing Centre until she retired last year.
Arch was a fur trader in Northern Manitoba and was the main competition for the Hudson's Bay Company. He has a reputation as a fair and honest man.
Arch died in a drowning accident on God's lake. Rita had fallen through the ice as they walked across to the island with young Eleanor. Arch managed to save Rita, but was overcome by the icy November water.
After Archie's death Rita and the girls moved south to Dauphin Manitoba and Anne and Amy were taken out of boarding school to finish at home. Rita lived in Dauphin until her death in 1974.

Leticia Welsh Roe

This picture of Leticia Welsh was taken in Orangeville Ontario on the day of her wedding to Richard Roe.
Leticia and Richard Roe are the family who moved to Portage la Prarie to start up the mill.
One of their son's - probably another Richard - is the father to our Grandmother Rita..

Great Grandma and Grandpa Roe
Married March 20, 1860
Great Grandma was 17 years old at the time of the marriage (born Nov 15,1842)
Great Grandpa was 22 years old when they got married (born August 25,1837)
