VIRGINIA AND BILL CARTY

Sorry, you don't support that plug-in
I'm Virginia Hill Carty. I was born Jun 19th 1959 in Calgary. I have two wonderful boys, Matthew who is 20 and Derek who is almost 24. Two and a half years ago my new husband Bill and I moved from Ontario to British Columbia, as I had some health challenges and we thought that the weather in BC and the clean air would help me to live a little easier. We moved to Kelowna, because my brothers Wayne and Jonothon were here and it was my Ma's home base. In all my adult life, I had not been close to family and I had a strong need to reconnect with them.

BILL AND I IN THE SUMMER OF 2001

Soon after moving to B.C. I found out that I have Multiple Sclerosis, a multisymptom degenerative illness that attacks otherwise healthy adults in their mid thirties to late forties. Today I get around with a cane, but I am looking very soon at having to use a walker. I find that I need to rest a lot and that my energy spurts are few and far between. I don't drive anymore and am thankful that Kelowna has an active MS society and that we have access to handi-transit, which is a Godsend, in my being able to get around. Another of my challenges with the MS is that I don't see very well. Needless to say I don't go far from home without supervision! I have a super sense of humour and a great support system in my family - the ones here and the ones across the country.
My computer is my lifeline. I don't know where I would be without it. I used to go to the library every chance I had before we got our own PC because that was how I kept in touch with my cousins and aunts. I thought that computers were for email only back then and didn't bother to explore things much further, because my time in the library was pretty limited.
I was like a kid in a candy store when we got our own computer, but before we got it I would borrow people's laptops, or scavenge what we could to get a system together. We were using an old 386 so you can imagine the patience I have.

Wedded at last! I think Bill almost gave up on me. We were married about four years ago - or maybe it was three - Gee I can't remember. I do remember it was Valentines Day.

BILL AND I AT CHRISTMAS

It took almost a year for Bill to find regular work after we came here. We both had faith that this was where we were supposed to be, and kept putting one foot in front of the other, knowing that if we stayed our course that eventually we would get to where we were supposed to be. Besides Life is a journey not a destination, so we strapped in for the ride.

SPEAKING OF STRAPPING IN FOR THE RIDE
Here is a picture of me on Eldorado - my buddy in the therapeutic riding program.

Come on ElDorado jump that fence!

This is me on Maggie. I've been therapeutic riding for a couple of years. I find it really helps and my fellow MS'ers and I go for coffee and a few laughs after. We don't do it in the winter, and I miss getting together with the gang, but spring will soon be here then look out because Hi Ho Silver I will ride again!

One of my signatures.

I spend a lot of time on the internet looking for and finding unique signatures for my mail.
I probably have about a hundred now, and I show no sign of letting up.
AWANNABEANGEL was a name I chose for myself when I was going to the library to email and it was and is a hotmail account of mine. It seemed fitting when I set up my webpage that I would have it hosted at Angelfire, and that my address would be awannabeangel.
I have been on an adventure all my life, and I'm not gonna slow down because I can't get "out there" - my hobbies - for the most part are in and around my home, I love to garden and get my hands dirty. Most days you can find me online. My hands get tired and swollen very quickly and I have a voice recognition program but I haven't figured out how to use it yet. One more hurdle to jump - Oh where is ElDorado when I need him.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my family. Please sign the guest book and let me know you were here.
May God bless you and keep you til we meet again.
