Higland Rose Granny Square
This is my favourite square so far!
 

 

 

Materials:
Small amount of 3 ply worsted weight yarn:

Col. A Dusty Rose
Col. B Dark or Med. Gray

size 4.50 crochet hook

gauge: finished square = 6"

with Col. A, ch 5 sl to make a ring

RND 1: ch 2 (counts as first hdc) 15 hdc in ring, join with sl to first hdc.

RND 2: ch 1 sc in same st as joining, ch 4 sk next st (sc in next st, ch 4, sk next st) 7 times, join with sl to first sc (8 ch 4 sps)

RND 3: sl in first ch 4 sp, ch 1, 1 sc in same sp, ch 4 (sc in next sp, ch 4) 7 times, join with sl to first sc

RND 4: sl in first ch 4 sp, ch 2 (counts as first hdc) 5 hdc in same sp, sl in next st, (6 hdc in next ch 4 sp, sl in next st) 7 times, join with sl in first hdc (48 hdc) finish off colour A.

RND 5: working only in missed sts of RND 1 (and behind RNDs 2-4) join col B with sl in any missed st. ch 6 (counts as 1st dc + ch 3) (dc in next st, ch 3) 7 times, join with sl to ch 3 of beg ch6.

RND 6:  sl in ch 3 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 4 dc in same sp,
*(working through sl of Rnd 4 and dc of rnd 5), work 1 dc (joining st
made), (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next sp, work joining st, 5 dc in next sp,
rep from * 3 more times but leave out the 5 dc in the 3rd rep, join with
sl to first dc.

Rnd 7:  ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next 7 st, *(2 dc ch 2, 2 dc) in
next sp, dc in next 11 st, rep from * 2 more times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc)
in next sp, dc in next 3 st, join with sl to first dc.  Finish off col.
B

RDN 8: working in back loops only,in any st, join col A with sl, ch 2 (counts as first hdc) hdc in each st around, working (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in corner sps. join with sl to first hdc, finish off col. A

RND 9: (still working in Bk loops only) in any st, join col B with sc, sc in each st around working 3 sc in each corner sp, join with sl to first sc. Finish off, weave in ends.
