SUBJECT: PROGRAMMING
TOPIC: Dos Wav player help needed please
DATE: 05-20-02 3:03pm

I have been playing with the excellent program from Toshi called DMAPLAY6 and although I have the last version (6f) there *seems* to be a problem. If I run the program (either compiled or with qb) in a dos window from either 95 or 98, it works great. However, if I try to run it in "real dos" it only plays a few seconds worth of the file and then hangs. I am trying to find some source code that will allow me to play a long wav file from "real dos". I think DMAPLAY6 should work but I have checked and re-check all my SET BLASTER= settings and everything *appears* to be correct even thought the program fails to work. Any helpful ideas about what I should try next please - I have "googled" myself into oblivion without any joy, tried the program with two motherboards and both a soundcard and an onboard sound system. Identical results (failure!) each time - although the program does START to work and only fails when (I think) it is attemtping to load the next block of data from the wav file (DMA routine). I have tried using different DMA settings, different IRQ's and swearing quietly. Nothing appears to help.
