HELP ON DISTRIBUTION OF MICRO-ORGANISMS (INTRO) Lab #10-2

1. Organisms used: various bacteria and mold samples

2. Background on what bacteria are like --Their structure (see your notes and terms)

3. WHY we sampled different areas of ADSS and WHY the lab topic is important

4.Any references used

5. What was the method (don't explain in detail - save more detailed explanation for methods)

6. What was the main result?

"DIPSTIC" Do a separate discussion for lab 10-2 and lab 11-1 (although help points are combined)

HELP ON DISCUSSION OF RESULTS (INTERPRETATIONS AND DATA)

1. DISCUSS: "How good" your results were compared with those of other groups

2. DISCUSS: Why the results may have been good or why some results were not as good.

3. DISCUSS: If the look of the bacterial colonies was as expected *for both lab 10-2 and 11-1

4. What implications (suggestions) can you draw from the results? For example: what does the pattern of growth suggest to you? *for both lab 10-2 and 11-1

5. What principles (and theory) are involved in the results? For example: Why is moisture needed for bacterial growth? What does the number of colonies tell you about how many bacteria you picked up on your tape?

What gerneral conclusions can be drawn about the success of the lab and what did you get out of the lab (no more than three sentences and what evidence do you have for each conclusion. Do separately for lab 10-2 and 11-1)

HELP ON WAR ON BACTERIA (INTRO) Lab 11-1

1. Background on antibiotics - where they come from etc. (to help the reader) and why this lab is important
1b. Be sure your purposes are stated clearly

2. Background on resistance of bacteria so reader could understand why antibiotics can become ineffective

3. Why we chose different antibiotics and why antibiotics are important and why two kinds of bacteria were used (give names of bacteria)

4. Any references used

5. What was the method ---Bioassay

6. What was the main result in general (don't exlain in detail)

***Don't give details on the method and the results in the introduction, because you have a special methods section and results section later***
