Kate

“Zac!” Isaac yelled trying to get his brother’s attention. Even though he knew that was probably an impossible feat since he had his headphones on and his CD player at a volume louder than Isaac could comprehend.

Finally after many tries, Isaac became impatient and walked over to the couch where Zac was laying and unplugged the headphones from the iPod player.

“What do you want you loser?” Zac asked trying to sound angry, but Isaac knew he wasn’t, Isaac knew his brother well enough to know when he was just playing around, and now was one of those times.

“I just wanted to know if you were going to come with me and Valerie to the concert in the park tonight,” Isaac said sitting down on the couch where Zac’s feet had previously been before he was interrupted.

“Who’s Valerie?” Zac asked trying to ignore the question about the concert. He wanted to go so bad, but then again so many reasons came to his mind why he shouldn’t. But, there was still that one thought that he knew in the end would overrule the rest of the negative thoughts.

“Oh, she’s my newest prototype for a girlfriend, I wanted her to come with us tonight to see how she acted around you, and so you could meet her and then later on tonight tell me what you thought of her,” Isaac said a picture of Valerie’s face coming to his mind. She was absolutely gorgeous; he didn’t think he’d ever had a possible girlfriend that was this beautiful. And he wanted to find out whether or not she was with him for the fame. That’s what Zac was for; he had perfect famedar, which is what they needed in most trial runs for girlfriends.

“Oh,” Zac simply said.

“Well, are you coming or not?” Isaac asked not forgetting his initial question.

“Oh I don’t know,” Zac answered him knowing that he was telling a lie. He wanted to go; he had already decided that he was going. He just didn’t want to seem desperate to his brother.

“Come on Zac! Plus, Kate’s going to be playing tonight. You always enjoy that,” he said knowing that that was the closing argument.

“Fine, I’ll go. What time are we leaving?” Zac asked absolutely enthralled that he was going.

“Right now, get your shoes on.”

They headed out in Isaac’s car, picked up Valerie and made their way to the park.

When they reached their destination Zac immediately knew that Kate was there. The nagging sense of butterflies he received in his stomach just told him she was there. He and his body knew that he was going to have a chance to see this girl that Zac referred to as heaven on earth.

“Zac!” Isaac yelled, once again, pulling Zac from his thoughts.

“What?!”

“Get out of the car, we’re here,” Isaac said from outside the car.

They started to walk towards the gazebo where they knew the performance was going to be held. People were already littered across the lawn on blankets and in lawn chairs.

Isaac, knowing that Zac wanted to sit as close to the front as he possibly could, started to look for a good place to sit. When Zac saw that Isaac had chosen a seat where you could see Kate perfectly, he felt extremely grateful to have a brother that liked to make him happy.

Zac knew that Isaac was talking to him, but he purposefully ignored him, because he was having a more interesting time staring at the drum set he knew belonged to Kate. That was one of the main reasons Zac was totally enamored with Kate. What more could a guy drummer ask for than a hott girl drummer.

Something moving in the distance caught Zac’s eye and he quickly guessed that it was Kate’s band, and sure enough as they came closer he could see Kate herself. He had never had the guts to speak to her, but he knew every time he even thought about her that she was the girl of his dreams.

As the band started to set up and Kate took her seat behind the drum set, she got the feeling of someone watching her. To her it was obvious that people were watching her, at a crowded concert in the park and a very rare girl drummer, people were going to look. But, tonight she got the feeling that someone special was watching her. She began to look around for the source of her anxious feelings. And who else could it be, but her idol, Zac Hanson. They guy she had mimicked drumming every since she could remember.

She gave him a shaky, but confident smile, which worried her that he might become appalled that she was looking back. But, when he gave her the same smile back butterflies quickly shot up not only in her stomach, but she felt her fingers begin to tingle at the prospect of playing drums in front of the god.

Zac becoming entirely to nervous at her awareness of him almost jumped off of the blanket when the band began to play “Wipeout” and this girl drummer totally blew his mind with her pure talent.

Later on that night the other members of the band began to walk off of the stage and Zac worried that the concert was over, but when he saw Kate pick up an acoustic guitar and sit on the stool that Zac had noticed that the beginning of the concert. She was going to sing a solo. The feeling of excitement and nervousness that radiated through Zac’s body at that moment was totally and purely unexplainable.

Then she began to sing, pure grace never even sounded so perfect to Zac. He thought that an angel had been sent to him and only him.

“She plays Wipeout on the drums
the squirrels and the birds come
Gather round to sing the guitar
Oh I...Have you got nothing to say?”

“Zac, dear god, is she that gorgeous,” Isaac said, once again trying to get Zac’s attention. The concert was over and the band was packing up their equipment, getting ready to leave. But, Zac had not drawn his eyes away from this lovely being for one second since the end of her solo. If he wasn’t in love before, he was in love with her now.

“Huh?” he replied to Isaac, unaware of what Isaac had even said to him.

“How about you go and talk to her, and if you can get a date and she has a car, I’ll just leave you here with her,” Isaac said sarcastically trying to get Zac to snap out of his daze.

“Sounds good,” was the only reply that Isaac received.

Zac gathered up all the courage he could find in himself and approached what he could only think of as a genuine goddess.

“Um, hi,” he said shyly making her attention turn from packing up her drum set to him.

“Hi,” she said just as shyly in return.

“My name’s Zac. What’s yours?” he asked hoping the small talk wouldn’t last long. He wanted to date and marry this girl. They had to get past the formalities so they could talk about their possible future.

“My name’s Kate,” she said trying to act as nonchalant as possible. She wanted to scream so bad and ask for his autograph, but she knew this was a special moment seeing as he had come up to her.

“It’s very nice to meet you Kate, you were excellent tonight. You play the drums very well and your guitar playing was exceptional,” Zac said hoping that his compliments would attract her to him.

“Thanks, that means so much to mean coming from someone as talented as you are,” she said hoping her comment didn’t scare him away.

“Oh, you know who I am?” he asked bewildered that this magnificent girl could possibly know who he was. Obviously the fact that he was a rock star had currently escaped his thoughts.

“Oh, yes, I learned how to play drums just because of your influence, your music means so much to me,” she wanted to reach out and hug him and kiss him and marry him. She had always loved him, she just never imagined meeting him in person and she got the feeling that he liked her back.

“That’s cool,” he said disregarding the glorifying comment. “So, do you want to go get some coffee or something?” he asked, praying that her answer was what he wanted to hear.

“When all words fail she speaks
her mixed tape's a masterpiece
Walks through the garden
so the roses can see
Oh I...Have you got nothing to say?”

After their small outing for coffee they had taken a walk through the park. Zac, noticing Kate’s many glances at the simple roses growing in random places, reached down and picked her a white rose with pink at the tips of the petals.

“Oh god Zac, it’s amazing; I never thought I would have so a good time with someone I just met. I feel like I’ve known you all of my life,” she said completely aware of the growing feeling of butterflies in her stomach.

“It’s only because you are purely and simply amazing,” he said feeling the same feeling that she was feeling.

“And you can see the daisies in her footsteps
Dandelions, butterflies
I wanna be Kate
Kate...Kate...Kate”

Her natural grace was exceedingly evident to Zac. The natural things in the park seemed to trust her pure beauty. Things like butterflies didn’t mind flying around her hair and the radiance that she admitted just made the flowers turn towards her.

Making plans for the next day Zac headed towards his and Isaac’s apartment. That night Zac hardly slept so eager about the next day.

The next day Zac arrived early to the same coffee shop they had been before; he grabbed a table in the back and waited for her, watching his watch intently.

When she walked in exactly on time, Zac noticed that she was wearing the same outfit she was wearing yesterday.

“Holy crap, this girl must be on some major doses of marijuana,” Zac thought completely to himself.

“Everyday she wears the same thing
I think she smokes pot
she’s everything I want
she’s everything I'm not
Oh I...Have you got nothing to say?”

“I absolutely love this girl,” Zac said to Taylor who had met Zac and Kate at the coffee shop a while after they met.

“I can see why,” Taylor agreed.

“Don’t forget you have a wife, I don’t want you stealing my possible soul mate,” Zac said to Taylor.

“I know, I’m just happy that you have finally found someone that you feel that you could share your life with,” Taylor told his little brother truly proud of him.

Just then Zac caught sight of Kate returning to their table from her short trip to the restroom. When Kate caught Zac’s gaze she offered him a smile that could win anyone over, but the smile was directed towards Zac.

“She never gets wet
She smiles and it's a rainbow
and she speaks
And she breathes
I wanna be Kate”

… A couple of years later, Zac was getting ready for his date with his serious girlfriend. The woman he was going to marry, the girl of his dreams. The girl he liked to call his Kate.

Zac, noticing the time on the clock, began to gather his stuff and rush out of the door, saying a quick good-bye to his oldest brother. He was going to meet Kate at her favorite hang out place.

He absolutely loved her and her hippie like morals.

“Down by Rosemary and Cameron
She hands out the Bhagavad-Gita
I see her around every couple days
I wanna meet her so I can say...hey Kate”

If anyone could’ve been anymore grateful for anything, Zac was incredibly grateful for having the guts to go up to her that day. He had found the love of his life.

“I just want to be Kate.”
