Daytona USA is one of the most beloved arcade racing games ever made. Though no mere conversion can match the thrill of the original from 1994, with its row of four enclosed cockpits placed side-by-side for four-player racing, SEGA's Windows version was a faithful conversion.
Daytona USA is fully-3D, somewhat close in appearance to Nascar Racing and in gameplay to Need for Speed, as the physics are definitely arcade-oriented. Though it only has three tracks (beginner, intermediate and expert), the tracks are very detailed. The Windows version offers an additional mode, PC Mode, which offers more options, such as longer races and varied track physics, and additional cars available as rewards for completing races in the top three at higher levels of difficulty (the original coin-op game, and the Arcade mode in this version, only offer two cars, although one can choose either automatic or manual transmission for each). |
