Mother Is Wounded As She Tries to Help Son

LOGAN. Feb. 20 CAP).—Attempting to stop a fight in which her son participated, Mrs. Minnie Thompson. 53 years old, of Chapmanville, was wounded by a bullet last night. Era Conley was held in jail for investigation. Officers said that Conley's finger was shot off by the same bullet that struck Mrs. Thompson. Mrs. Thompson saw her son, William, fighting and as she walked toward the group of young men to stop the quarrel the bullet was fired. Officers expressed the opinion that the shooting was accidental.


Minnie Thompson was the daughter of David and Sahra Hall Conley.

She died February 22, 1933 from this gunshot wound.

Chapmanville Men Dead in Slaying, Suicide

LOGAN, May 16 UP).—A coroner's jury decided today that Hugh Thompson, 64, killed H. Sybert Hager, 33, then sent a bullet through his own head after an argument at Chapmanviile. Hager died today, 15 hours after the shooting at the home of Mrs. Fanny Baisden. Trooper R. G. Norman said Mrs. Baisden told him that Thompson came to her home yesterday and argued with Hager over his visits with Mrs. Elbert Hager, 28, no relation. Norman said she added that Thompson, the father of six children, fired one shot at her, then shot Hager when he attempted to gain possession of the gun. Afterwards, the trooper said Mrs. Baisden told him, Thompson chased her from the house and the gunshot followed. Thompson was found dead.


Hugh Thompson was the widowed Husband of Minnie Thompson.
