LOGAN BOY SLASHED DURING FIGHT DIES

LOGAN. April 26 (AP).—Hubert Conley. 17 years old. of Harts Creek, died here last night from knife wounds suffered Sunday nisht at Caney Creek. Officers said he was cut in a fight in which eight men took part. The cause of the fight was undetermined

VICTIM OF KNIFING DIES OF WOUNDS

Hubert Conley, age 17 years, died last night at the Hatfield Lawson Hospital here from wounds inflicted in a cutting affray on Harts Creek Sunday evening.

His assailant is not known, though investigation shows that there were eight men involved in the fight at Caney Creek not far from Chapmanville. The fighting occurred about 9 o'clock Sunday evening.

Hubert Conley is the son of Lee and Linnie Stollings Conley who reside near Chapmanville, on a farm home.

He was taken to the Hatfield Lawson hospital here yesterday afternoon, after attemps had been made to dress his wounds at home.

The body was taken in charge by the Wyatt Funeral Home, and prepared for burial, which will be held this evening at the Chapmanville cemetary.

Logan Court Room Is Scene o£ Fight Among 30 Persons LOGAN, Sept. 22.—(ffj—A fight In which approximately 30 persons, men and women, participated, occurred in the Logan county circuit court room today. Three were sentenced to ten days each In Jail for contempt. <' The battling started as the crowd was filing'from the court room after hearing a jury virdict convicting Johnny Mounts of manslaughter' in the death of Hubert Conley, on Taney creek last April. Judge Naaman, Jackson had allowed a defense motion to postpone sen-, tence and allow a new trial and the crowd was discussing the case when Russell Scaggs, a witness at the trial, Tilda Bias, a sister of. Mounts, and Lizzie McKeely, her companion, began quarreling. Mounts tore away from a deputy sheriff and joined his sister and her friend. Others joined the fray which ended when deputy sheriffs drew pistols and forced their- way- into the melee to arrast,.Mounts. ' Court was reconvened and Scaggs and the two women were sentenced by Judge Jackson for contempt.
