Logan Men Kill Each Other After Quarrel Involving Borrowed Animal

Logan Aug 24 _ Will Conley, 47, took a 5 mile ride on a mule. It cost him his life and that of his friend Luther Lawson, 39. Sargt. J. E. Childers reconstructing the tragedy back on the head of Smokehouse Fork of Harts Creek, said that in the quarrel over the mule, Lawson shot Conley and Conley fatally wounded his friend. The Sergant said Lawson and Conley farmed neighboring tractsfar back in the mountains. They were related by marriage. Childer told the story; Conley arranged with Ulysses Conley to borrow the mule which belonged to Mrs. Lula Conley, Lawson's mother-in-law. He rode to Fry, another little community. Returning to his home, Conley heard Lawson berating Ulysses for lending the mule. Witness told me the elder Conley said " Don't pick on him. I'm the one that got the mule. Lawson told him to get off the mule and we will end this thing right here". The Lawson fird five times. Conley shot one of his bullets piercing Lawson's heart. Conley died shortly afterwards
