LILLY HEADS RAIDING ON LOGAN STILLERS

Ten Arrested, 20 Stills Taken on Crawley Creek

LOGAN. Sept. 11.—Logan county moonshining received one of the severest blows dealt in recent years wnen about 30 state and county of- ficers, the latter under the direction of Mack B. Lilly, chief Logan county deputy. invaded the Crawley creek section. Twenty stills, ranging from the wash boiler type to the latest word in copper coils, were captured evidence of approximately 6 000 gallons of mash seized and ten per- sons arrested. Lilly announced, upon his return, that he planned to continue the battle against distilling, and today, with a party of deputies and state police is in the rugged Harts Creek section of the county. Among those arrested on Crawley Creek were Burton Hager, Wilburn Workman, Shirley Hager, Raymond Hager, Will Stollings, Ezra Workman, Lacy Conley, Calvin Bryant, Frank Cabell and L. Conley. All are held at the county jail for investigation. So well-planned were the raids that many stills were captured during the course of "runs" While the party had learned in advance of many illicit plants, several not on the list were discovered during their journey over the mountains. Sergant Brooks of the Chapmanville detachment of the state police and his men assisted the raids.
