Later in the day Conley's mother, Mrs.(Garland) Fly Conley, is said to have- attacked Mrs. Russell Conley with a butcher knife. The outcome for two of the cen- tral figures may be death. Wednesday, a party of relatives arrived at the hospital with the patient. He was found to be suffering wounds in the chest, over the left eye, the thumb, and back The latter injury is the most serious, tho bullet lodging at tho patient's spine. Marcutn's version of the fight took no account of the "eternal triangle" theory, and deals with no more of a motive than the theft of a hat. He said that Monday night Conley had been at the home of Charlie (Gue) Conley, where Marcum stays and when he left he had taken his (Marcum's) hat, Tuesday morning Marcum said he. went to claim his property. Conley then chased him with a shovel, striking him on the back of the head and causing him to fall, he said. After Mareum had arisen and started up the road, so his story goes, Conley ran after him, shovel in hand, chased him for about 100 yards, and then on catching up, struck him across the back with the shovel. Marcum says he then turned around and fired six shots at Conley, four of which took affect, Both men, are between the ages of 20 and 25.
