Man Fatally Shot In Tavern Brawl LOGAN - Tennis Scaggs. 39, of Chapmanville was shot to death early Sunday at a Crawley Creek tavern, State Police here said. Loss Godfrey of Hanover was held in the Logan County jail charged for murder. State Trooper Roy Stover said the shooting followed an argument at the tavern owned by Otho Butcher. Butcher and two of the victim's brothers, Findley and Bobby, were being held for questioning.Stover said tho fatal shot was fired at point blank range Findley Scaggs also was wounded

Jury In Logan Convicts Slayer LOGAN (AP) — A Logan County Jury today convicted Loss Godfrey of Hanover. Wyoming County, of voluntary manslaughter in the slaying of Tennis (Boss) Scaggs of Chapmanville last July Sentencing was delayed pending a hearing on a defense motion to have the verdict set aside. Godfrey was charged with shooting Scaggs during a fight at a Crawlcy Creek tavern. Godfrey said he shot in self defense.


Tennis Scaggs is the son of Alfano and Velva Mae Conley Scaggs and great grandson of Garland and Elizabeth Farley Conley.
