Adrian : Lead Guitar

Gary: Drums

Eli: Bass

Rob : Rhythm Guitar

The premise of Bananas was simple. Just four people trying to share a Christian message through their own kind of music. This music was loud, often out of tune and often had vocals that were inaudible.  As musicians they were inexperienced, but enthusiastic. As communicators of the gospel they were often insensitive and ineffective. There were times that their performances caused offence, either by the way they sounded, by their stage antics or because they spoke about Jesus.

In spite of all the above they had a small following who would faithfully attend their concerts, and clap and sing and dance along. There were those who thought they had great potential. Others thought their whole enterprise was a waste of time and energy.

For themselves, their music, their stage antics and their exuberance were a way of worshipping God. Their naive belief was that being 'bananas' about their relationship with God, justified going 'bananas' as they performed, prayed, danced, and played their stuff. When they sang, "You know I'm bananas about you", the words were meant as a song of praise to their God.

After a short time together, (the band only lasted from January to November of 1978), they went their different ways. Gary and Eli sought musical fame in the secular field. Rob went onto form a band called "The Words". Adrian got a job with the Civil Service and joined a band called Salt. What can one say, but…...

"Ba-na-naa-na-na-naa"

They were loud.
They were unusual.
They had a lot of fun.
They lasted about a year.
They talked a lot about Jesus.
