A Child's Lullaby

A child's lullaby
Never sung softly,
Nor heard by this sweet child-
All grown up, wonders why.

Affection absent from the heart,
Hand reaches out
And pushed away time and again.
This life lies in the dark.

Alone, frightened in this shelter of dark,
Ears covered so tight,
Silent tears shed softly-
Mending, I wish for this heart.

Will only time tell,
When everything is right,
With love to fill the heart,
And in the heart, happiness dwells.

Little hands interlace,
With uncertainty and doubt.
Wondering forever,
Will I feel an embrace?
