This Girl

There once was a little child
So alone in this world,
A sly look upon her lips
Producing her forever smile.

She was this walking contradiction,
A smile that will brighten the room,
And sad eyes that bring you to your knee's.
Her soul cast to the dark, her body to the sun.

She hides out loud,
No one to question
Why that smile does not match those eyes.
The head ever so slightly bowed.

The center of attention
Touches everyone she's around,
Charms her way to your heart
Always looking like fun;

Deadened through time.
Blackness here for keeps,
This is how she is-
Teetering back and forth over the line.

Crying out for help in vain,
Streaming silent tears,
Whispering unseen fears,
Hiding her pain.

Forever amid strife,
Outside holding that smile,
Inside holding that pain;
This is her life.
