Renewing member Mark M. sent in this note: "I just bought a '79 Pantera that I am puting back together. The '74 El Tigre twin-plug is just finished and the '81 El Tigre and the '78 Kitty Cat are running well. So, my Cat world is all good! I would like the small orange sticker for the Pantera, the purple/green sticker for the '74 and, if possible, a green sticker for the '81."

No problem, Mark! Your stickers are on the way. And thanks for sending in the info!

"Hello Paul, Enclosed are my dues for 2008. My 1971 Puma 399 (Kohler) should be ready for next winter. Polishing is done and the hood is ready for paint. I should be able to get the powder coating done early this spring (on the steel parts), and then it will be a matter of reassembly.

Here is a list of my Cat pride:

  • 1969 Panther 372 (JLO), restored.
  • 1971 Puma 399 (Kohler), 2 - one is a rider and the other is being restored.
  • 1971 Puma 440 (Kawasaki), to be restored.
  • 1972 Puma 399 (Kawasaki),it is now a hybrid, with a 292 cc 1 cyl.
  • 1973 Puma 440 (Kawasaki), to be restored.
  • 1973 El Tigre 400 (Kawasaki), finished 2nd in the local vintage drags last year. This year I had time to work on the clutches and I hope to improve upon my 2nd place.
  • 1973 Lynx 292/1 (Kawasaki), great shape, never been restored. Won it's class in last year's drags.
  • 1973 Cheetah 440 (Kawasaki), restored close to showroom, now has a rebuilt engine as it melted a pto piston in the last vintage ride. The Cat Cutter and two teenagers in it were a bit heavy...
  • 1973 Cheetah 340 (Kawasaki) electric start, my wife's present ride.
  • 1973 Panther 340 (Kawasaki), restored.
  • 1975 Cat Cutter, great shape, never been restored.

Thanks for all the work you do with the club, it's appreciated. Andre C., Canada"

Exciting news! Another new, must see, snowmobile museum is now open.

"Paul, I thought maybe you could give us a plug on the website or maybe the next newsletter."

"The Top of the Lake Snowmobile Museum opened on July 4th in Naubinway, Michigan. The museum features 60 machines representing 44 manufacturers from the early years of snowmobiling, along with a large display of memorabilia, suits, helmets, and photos. Naubinway is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on highway US-2, just one hour west of the Mackinac Bridge. Admission is $5.00, or $10.00 per family. Hours are Thursday thru Sunday, Noon - 8:00pm. Stop in and see the history of snowmobiling come to life. Thanks for your help!" Terry B. - Massillon, Ohio

New member Brian G. (from MI) writes: "...I have also sent a picture of my 1981 El Tigre 5000 that I found and restored. The sled sat outside, although covered, for 10+ years. The sled was in three shows this year in Michigan, taking a "viewers choice" and a "participants choice" in two shows. I am currently detailing the sled in a couple of areas in the hope of doing better in the upcoming year. I will be starting restoration on a '79 Pantera this summer and I'm looking for a 1975-77 El Tigre. ACCA looks like a great Cat lovers club!

You did a real fine job with your sled. Congrats! And welcome to the ACCA!

Brian S., from NH, sent in some more pics. This time, they are of his original/repaired 1968 Cougar. The Cougar is a rare sled, and unique, with it's bogey wheel rear suspension. Brian says: Here is my 1968 Cougar with a 8 hp Kohler 4-stroke. I bought this sled from Dennis M. from Wisconsin a few years ago. I had to replace the track drive sprocket and repair/rebuild the rear axle assembly. The track was okay, but Corky F. sold me some new track belts and all but three cleats. Dwight S. found me the other three cleats, plus seven more that I now have for spares. Those cleats are real hard to find because the Cougar used a center drive and it takes a special cleat. I have not painted anything on this sled. Every time I talked to Dennis, he would ask me if I had it going yet and I would have to say no. I wish he could have lived a little longer so I could have sent him these pics of it on snow again. Dennis said that this sled was originally sold from the dealership he bought out, Power Repair. It sat in a few dealership windows over the years, the last being a car dealer. He got it from there. And the rest, they say, is history. My newest acquisition is a '73 Alley Cat. It should be here by mid-February.

Thanks for the pics and info! Click the pics to see a larger version.
