Philadelphia Flyers

by Kevin Neibauer

The Flyers top prospects (in no particular order):

Mike Maneluk -- Maneluk had a huge Calder Cup Playoff for the AHL champion Phantoms, he had 20 goals and 14 assists. Maneluk has been promosed a shot to make the Flyers this season. With the obstruction calls and the new configuration of the nets, Maneluk could prove to be a valuable addition to the Flyers.

Paul Healey -- Healey had only 1 goal in the Calder Cup action, Healey needs to work on consistency. His hands are soft and he could be a good specialty player. Healey needs to have a strong and consistent training camp to make the parent team. Look for him to start the season with the Phantoms.

Brian Wesenberg -- The most improved player that the Phantoms had last season. Has size, and the heart needed to play with the big boys. His hands need improvement, although he did show major potential last season. His youth is a bonus, his testiness is also a bonus. Wesenberg, along with Brian Boucher may be stars of the future.

Brian Boucher -- as I said, may be a star of the FUTURE,not nearly ready yet, needs at least 1 more full season of minor league work, may not even be with the Phantoms when the season begins. Flyers should not give up too early on Boucher, he did show flashes of brilliance but is clearly not ready to help the parent club.

Ryan Bast -- Bast was embroiled in contractual problems during the Calder Cup playoffs, he really was non-existent during the finals against the Phantoms. Bast is still under contract to the St. John Flames for this season,so the Flyers figure to make some type of move to get him, then again, with the Flyers, maybe not. Bast has size, quickness, toughness and handles the puck well. He didnt appear to be ready for the NHL yet, but you may see him next season in a rink near you.
