The New Look Calder Cup Champions

By Kevin Neibauer

I would like to update the Phans on some of the new faces who will be taking the ice this season. Let's start with some names that should be familiar to everyone.

JEAN-MARC PELLETIER- Was here for the playoffs last season, Pelletier played two seasons with Cornell University.

MARTIN BOISVENUE- Another late season arrival. Boisvenue didn't play in any games with the Phantoms last season, injuries have hampered him thus far.

JESSE BOULERICE- Once his suspension has been served and his legal problems behind him, Boulerice will join the Phantoms in mid November. Boulerice has been with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL. Boulerice has put up some high penalty minutes with 529 minutes in the last three seasons.

Now, onto the new faces....a defenseman signed out of Notre Dame University,

MARK EATON brings a local flavor to the club. Eaton was born in Wilmington, Delaware and was coached in college former Flyer, Dave Poulin. Eaton is 6'-3" and weighs in at 193 lbs. Eaton is highly touted by both Poulin and Bob Clarke.

SERGEI KLIMENTIEV- Former Rochester American out of the Ukraine, Klimentiev has played 211 Games with 25 goals, 79 assists and 282 penalty minutes. Klimentiev could very well start the season as the Flyers 7th defenseman.

Many of the new guys have played in the IHL. STEVE MCLAREN- could be a fan favorite. 6'-1",194 lbs. McLaren has played three seasons in the IHL with penalty totals of 170, 309 and 308 minutes.

RICHARD PARK- A journeyman center, he has played in the NHL with both Pittsburgh and Anaheim. Phantoms fans may remember Park from playing last season with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.

Former Worcester Ice-Cat, JASON ZENT also has IHL and NHL experience. Zent spent last season scoring 25 goals and 17 assists with the Ice Cats. Zent also appeared in 3 NHL games with Ottawa.

The most experienced of the new guys is MARK GREIG. Greig has played in the IHL with Grand Rapids, Houston, Quebec and Atlanta. Greig's IHL numbers: 204 Games...64 Goals..116 Points and 266 penalty minutes. Greig also has NHL experience having played for Calgary, Toronto and Hartford. His NHL totals: 95 Games...8 Goals...20 assists...and 76 penalty minutes. Lastly, Greig has also been with three AHL teams, the Springfield Indians, Saint John's Maple Leafs, and the Saint John Flames. Greig's current AHL stats: 258 Games....107 Goals, 180 assists and 300 penalty minutes.
