A look at our long
term scorecard. Should you require more detail, e-mail me at the address at the bottom of this page.
Here's a quick summary:Details are below: Since 1980, Lark has guided a total of 243 hunters over 19 seasons. These hunters have a total sightings of 458 bear (averaging 1.9 per hunter), with 181 successful hunters. Over that time (19 seasons) we have had a 'shots to hunters percentage" of 95.1% ('shots' means attempts to take an animal - this is a straight average - some hunters have had more that one attempt, while others none) and an overall 19 season Annual average success rate of above 75% or better. The Harvest Rate vs Sightings is 39.5% (In other words, hunters have harvested 39.5% of bears seen - this is selective harvesting at its best!) We are quite proud of these long term statistics. We are recognized by North American Hunt Club, and other sporting groups in America. We think we're one of the best bear camps in Ontario, and our long term statistics go a long way in arguing that claim. We run hunting camps, and not resorts.
Our setups are what we call "Outpost Conditions", clean and safe, but on
the rustic side. If you want a good, hard working bunch of Guides who do
the hunt for their own satisfaction, manage game for the long term, with
better than average success, then you have to consider us.

Notes:
* Shots are individual hunter attempts
to take an animal. We use this number and rugs to measure hunter effectivenes,
or 'Kills to Shots' We can influence this number, especially with your
attentiveness.
** Rugs means successful recoveries of hunter bears. This number is used to calculate 'Success Rate'. The Success rate is largely a part of Hunter Effectiveness (Kills to Shots), which, although we play a part, takes some work on the part of the individual hunter.
*** Kills to Shots: This is a number we want to be much higher. Over the years, we have tried to improve this measure through hunter education and orientations. We expect that your goals are the same. Our Camp Policy states that you must attend our orientation program which covers off what you need to know to improve your skills as a hunter.
Overall: Considering that since 1988, by law, every non resident bear hunter is required to use the services of a registered Bear Hunting Lodge or Bear Hunting guide, I think these are impressive results.
Compared to the recent game Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources harvest statistics( Wildlife Surveys & Records for the Northern Region of Ontario, show a total of 3334 non-resident hunters harvesting 1048 bear or a success rate of 31.4 %), we have an overall success ratio more than twice the region average... We also do quite well when compared to the overall Ontario Provicial success rate of 32.7% for non-resident hunters, and 15.1% for resident bearhunters. (These are numbers you will never see from the anti hunters!!!)
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources documented provincial overall annual success rates for resident and non-resident bear hunters for past years are around 13.7% and 32.6% respectively.
The bottom line is that the documented, normal Ontario-wide,
success rate for non-resident when using a bear hunting lodge or guide
sits at about 3.2 bears per 10 hunters.
