PALIMPSEST
by Larry D. Thomas
What is the world
but parchment
for the calligraphy
of our yearning?
Each of our lives
but an exquisite
crayon, pressed
against eggshell
translucent
with the ghosts
of those before,
dragged crumbling
across a surface
fuzzy with the soft
erasures of loss?
Larry D. Thomas lives
in Houston, Texas. His poetry has recently appeared, or is forthcoming in
The Journal of the American Medical Association, The Chattahoochee Review,
