Sequential art-n. Juxtaposed pictoral and other images in deliberate sequence, intended to convey information and/or create an aesthetic response in the viewer.-Scott McCloud |
As a Sequential artist I have all the skills of a Graphic Designer or Illustrator but I focus on the two unique abilities of communication through juxtapositional design.....Speed of absorption and viewer involvement. Using symbols that everyone in modern culture understands dramatically alters the time needed for the viewer to understand the picture. Such symbols also transcend language, an important note in our expanding global marketplace. The time of absorption is the difference between success and failure. Viewer involvement is created using closure. Closure is the ability to fill in missing visual information. Using closure requires the viewer to participate in the creation of the art every time they look at it, making a much more powerful impression. The other aspect of closure creating viewer involvement is the cartoon, which unlike a photo representing a specific individual, can represent millions of people at once. Being aware of these potent tools combined with my artistic abilities, I can be a tremendously effective graphic designer, illustrator, and web-master. |
