I did not get a chance to see you leave as I left myself so many years ago,
I did not see you there as I was with somebody else,
I was not there when the fears and pain touched the very essence of your soul
as mine was being touched also,
I was not there to share the grief of losing a comrade as I was losing mine
also.
I was not there to give words of comfort in times of need for I was elsewhere,
I was not there in the long lonely nights to make them shorter as mine were
long too,
I was not there In the chilling rain to give you warmth for I was wet and cold
also,
I was not there to share your joy of a Letter From Home but I got mine also,
I was not there to see your face when It came your time to return to the
World,
I was not there when you were rejoined with your loved ones As I was also,
BUT I AM HERE TO SHARE THE BOND WE FELLOW SOLDIERS HAVE FORGED IN OUR HEARTS
