VOLUNTARY SIMPLICITY MEETING NOTES
NOVEMBER 12, 2005
Vickie, Gerry, Don, Ross, Lenny, Mark, Shirley, Woodie, Dave and Jill welcomed John, Phyllis, Rich and Margaret to their first meeting, dubbed "How Cheap Thou Art" by Vickie’s mother!
A brief round of introductions was followed by robust conversations creatively conducted in one conference room!
The following topics were discussed:
Too Many Areas of Interest and How to Balance One’s Time and Energy
Conclusions include: Enjoy the journey of life without stressing over all the options, Diminish any guilt you may feel, and that time and money are expressions of our energy.
Investments: What is the Best Way to Retire ASAP
Discussion included pros and cons of treasuries, protecting your principal and the reminder to live below your means.
Transformations: Radical Personal Change
Biological and social needs may overshadow an individual’s authenticity and passion for life.
YMOYL: Basics Overview
Several concepts from the book were touched upon including:
Finding out exactly what one’s income and outlay is : note it and chart it!
Was the enjoyment experienced or the ownership of an item worth the time it took to earn the money to buy it?
Identify your gazingus pins and reduce their numbers so you can enjoy your life now!
Living a Quality Life with Questionable Income (all legal income) ;)
A general discussion included the need to balance current investments to make them work harder so the individual doesn’t have to!
Winter Living
It gets cold and dark the next few months. What indoor and outdoor activities exist instead of being a couch potato ? Ideas included embracing the season and it’s offerings, dressing warmly and getting outside and celebrate winter birthdays and anniversaries their entire month ! Lots of volunteer opportunities exist without long term commitments including income tax preparer and museum docent. And love the environment and Bike Winter !
Two conversations included the entire group. Woodie offered information on saving money on cell phones and long distance charges. Gerry asked for ideas on dealing with the failing health of parents and the need to convince them to move to a safe environment. As all in attendance either have or will face this situation, several good ideas surfaced including identifying fears and ways of overcoming objections.
The energy was high, several folks had returned after several months and the conversation continued for quite some time in front of the building.
