Make certain you are familiar with the recording device. Have extra batteries and tape available. Bring a pen, note pad and a Watch or timer for use when you need to make notations about where The topics and responces can be found on the tape for future reference. Put name, date and a reference number on your tape, cassette or disc. Also Add the same information verbally to the head of the recording. This is called ‘slating The tape’. When the recording runs out, have your interviewee pause in their story while you reset A new tape or turn over cassette and start recording again. You should then rephrase your question To have them continue.
