Set up your video camera inobtrusively. If possible use a pin-on microphone for the interviewee and another for yourself. Place lighting on the face and figure of the interviewee. Close light sources in the rear. Collect photographs and home movies to insert into to your recording at a later time. Ask family members to contribute these materials which could also include newspaper clippings and scrapbook items. Check recording levels at the head (the top) of the tape. Play it back to see if the set up was done properly. Repeat when you are ready to start.
