September 18, 2007... The theater world gathered Tuesday at the Majestic Theater for a musical tribute to the late Betty Comden. The Brooklyn-born writer and performer made up half of the prolific musical duo Comden and Green. Broadway stars acknowledged her many contributions to the theater world. Comden and Green won five Tony Awards for their work on Broadway, including three awards for Best Musical. The song "New York, New York" from “On the Town” is just one in a long list of classics, which also includes "Singing in the Rain." Comden died last November at the age of 89. Her partner, Adolf Green, died in 2002.
