Significance:This paper investigates the use of nurses and other caregivers to observe and record data. It is shown that a computer can more accurately and more efficiently perform the observing and recording. It addition the computer can analysis the data in real-time and present the results to the caregiver in the form of a quality control chart with decision making limits.
