L'après-midi folk réunit trois groupes des îles britanniques : The Tholtan Builders (Irlande), Lia Luachra (Ile de Man) et Cannach (photo), qui vient d'Ecosse, et qui se trouve aussi à l'aise dans les jigs rapides que dans les ballades, et la voix chaleureuse de leur violoncelliste n'y est pas étrangère..

  At the Palaise des Congres. The afternoon folk session reunites 3 bands from the British Isles: The Tholtan Builders(Isle of Man), Lia Luachra (Ireland) and Cannach (photo) who are from Scotland and are equally fantastic at the hard fast driving reels that they play as they are with their beautiful slow ballads and the wonderful singing voice of Judith Pullar the cello player.

  The album The Moons Of Glenloy showcases new line-up Cannach, founded in 1995, by Donald Macphee and Gerry and Norry Hunter, previously members of the Blackbog Band, well known around Fyvie. Judith Pullar was discovered at a session in Aberdeen; Shetlander Lynda Anderson was signed up at student registration in Aberdeen Uni on grounds of ethnic origin and possession of a fiddle, a pair of circumstances usually held to guarantee musical acumen. The result is a layered sound exploring such themes as attractive bathroom suites seen in MFI (honest!) and broken cars, plus some trad airs and not a few tributes to young ladies. There is also a musical appreciation of the "Aonach Mhor Gondola" and "Travellers", a song featuring the importance of respect for what are called "indigenous communities", while at the same time welcoming settlers. The whole collection is an encouraging taster of Cannach in action, and should ensure a growing following.

  Ein musikalisch vielseitiges Album brachte die 1995 gegründete schottische Band Cannach mit "The moons of Glenloy" jetzt auf den Markt. Instrumental- als auch Gesangstücke wechseln und verleihen der Produktion durch das gekonnte Fiddlespiel von Lynda Anderson, die auch aus Shetland stammt, ihren besonderen Reiz. Judith Pullar sorgt mit ihrer weichen, feinfühligen Stimme für die nötige Atmosphäre und Garry Hunter trickst gekonnt mit dem nötigen Fingerspitzengefühl am Banjo und sorgt bei den Irish Tunes damit für gelungene Kneipenstimmung. 12 Titel finden sich auf dem Album wieder, die sich sowohl aus eigens komponierten Liedern als auch aus bekannten Traditionals zusammensetzen.
  
  Here is a review from the German folk magazine - FOLK WORLD. The translation (via Alta Vista) is either by a first year German student or the reviewer has a lot of personal worries. We think that it is sufficiently complimentary to merit a mention (even if we don't know what it means!!).
