The Male Chorus was organized by Julia Marie (Sudler) Purnell in January, 1962 under the pastorate of Rev. J.W. Thomas. Their debut service was on the first Sunday in April of 1962. The first president was Trustee Harold Jackson; he also served as the director of the chorus for many years. The first songs on their roster included: "He's the One" and "First Corinthian" an original song written by Sister Purnell.Following Sister Purnell, Brother John Wilson served as the musician for over ten years. Reverend Marlon Lewis succeeded John Wilson as pianist. Shortly thereafter, Deaconess Glorious Milbourne shared her musical talents as the Chorus' pianist until her retirement in September, 2002. Mr. Frank Perry has succeeded Deaconess Milbourne as the Chorus’ musician. During the 1980's, Deacon Gerald Wesson served as the director of the Male Chorus. The present director is Deacon Dwane Hamilton.
Over the decades, the Male Chorus of First Corinthian has been known throughout the Delaware Valley for their vibrant and versatile music ministry.
