On Tuesday, January 2, 2001, Pastor Silas Thomas met with the Music Ministry Department in a general membership meeting to discuss a vision he'd had for quite a while. The vision was to combine the Women's Choral Ensemble and the Adult Chorus. A motion was brought to the floor to combine the two groups. The motion was carried, put to a vote, and the two groups became one. As a result, the officers of the two old choirs were no longer in office and new officers were needed. Sis. Doris Baggart was the President of the group formerly known as the Women's Choral Ensemble, while Sis. Pearl Farmer was President of the former Adult Chorus.
The group opted to elect new officers for the new choir. After nominations and voting, Sisters Katie Hamilton and Elsie Shelton were elected President and Vice President, respectively. Other elected officials that evening were: Secretary: Sis. Annie Johnson; Assistant Secretary-Sis. Pat Tyler; Treasurer-Sis. Dora Bonner; Assistant Treasurer-Sis. Emma Curtis; Chaplain-Sis. Delores Cook; Assistant Chaplain-Sis. Martha Faison.
Pastor Thomas indicated that a new name was needed. Several suggestions were made, and by majority vote, the new name was adopted: "United Voices". This was the inception of the United Voices of First Corinthian.
