The preliminary foundation for the Youth Mass Choir was laid back in 1970 when the Sunday School Choir was formed. Under the leadership of Sister Jackie Miles, Sister Dorothy Edmonson and Sister Betty Palmer, the Sunday School Choir sang every Sunday morning during Sunday School and on the fifth Sunday Youth Day Services. Pianists included Bro. Lerone Bonner and Sister Glorious Dillard (Milbourne). In 1992, in anticipation of the inception of the church’s new 7:45 Early Morning Worship Service, Sister Brenda Lyde shared her vision of a new choir of young people with Pastor Thomas. The group was named the Teen Choir and they made their singing debut on the second Sunday in October, 1992 during the very first Early Morning Worship Service. These young people served as the sole singing unit for the 7:45 a.m. services for several years. Eventually the Teen Choir also rendered service during the 11:00 a.m. Youth Day Services held every 5th Sunday. Sister Lyde was faithfully assisted by Sister Emma Brookins, Rev. Marlon Lewis and Deacon Gerald Wesson (among others).
In 2001, under the leadership of Pastor Silas Thomas and the gifted musical guidance of Music Administrator Karen Mercer, the Sunday School Choir and the Teen Choir became one body: the First Corinthian Youth Mass Choir. Since the formation of this new group, the Youth Mass Choir has spread God’s message in song during various concerts, anniversaries and outings throughout the tri-state area. Under the musicianship of Mr. Frank Perry, Master Marlon Lewis and assisted by Deaconess Glorious Milbourne, the FCBC Youth Mass Choir has embarked upon a glorious gospel music ministry journey, sharing God’s word through song with their youthful exuberance and dedication.
