Lindsay's Public School System has a tradition of excellence in both academic and co-curricular pursuits. In 1954, Lindsay was one of the first 10 schools in Oklahoma to achieve total accreditation by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, an organization which requires standards above those required by the state.
The Lindsay School maintains that North Central tradition to this day, in all of its grades, Kindergarten through twelfth.
Academically, our schools have reached the state finals of the Academic Bowl Competition three times, and has had the title of Academic All-State bestowed on former students, as recently as 1997.
Athletically, Lindsay Schools have had much success. Four state titles in football, three in girls basketball, two in golf, and one in baseball and one in boys cross country are achievements that our student-athletes have accomplished in the past. We have also attained success in other sports as well, including boys basketball, boys and girls track, girls cross country, and slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball. The 1997 boys cross country team won the state Academic plaque, and the 1997 slow-pitch softball team compiled a record of 25-3, defeating many of the top teams in the state in all classes.
We have also achieved many accomplishments in the fine arts, including the visual arts, where our students in 1997 were the first school outside the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area to ever have their works displayed at the Omniplex. We have growing band and vocal music programs, with the goal to establish a speech, debate and drama program in the near future. We will continue to encourage our students to pursue a well-rounded education.
Although no one knows what the future holds, we feel that the Lindsay Schools are headed in a positive directions. Our staff is positive about our students, and we recognize that our mission is to prepare our students for the 21st century workplace.
We have recently provided Internet access to our students in the high school through a 20-station computer lab, as well as in our high school library, where they may utilize this tool to aid in research and learning. In the summer of 1998 we will provide more computer technology in the elementary and middle schools, where we will add Internet access to the library, as well as two new state-of-the art computer labs.
It is an exciting time to be in education. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve the students of Lindsay, and welcome our patrons into our schools to aid us in our search for excellence!
