California's Donnas, quite succinctly, are the pinup girls for the upcoming anti-Lilith revolution. Nothing too complex on American Teenage Rock'N'Roll Machine -- chainsaw guitars over a 4/4 beat, fairly adept lead work by Donna R., songs about teen lust, staying out all night and rock-rock-rock and roll ... sure, it's all been done before, but the Donnas pull it off in these ten punk anthems with nothing but a raw, unabashed energy that makes Green Day seem tired and contrived. The train wreck starts with "Rock'N'Roll Machine," a propulsive hallejuah of a ditty that will still serve as these ladies' signature tune five or ten years from now. By the close of "Shake In The Action" some 24 minutes later, you'll have checked your inhibitions at the door, sweaty, exhausted and reaching for the "repeat" button on your CD player. It'll be fun, so what are you waiting for?
