Proper review, here are a few slightly out-of-order impressions. The concert at Rome was a good one, even if we probably had to put up with the fact that this was the first night of the tour, and therefore some things were as yet a little unbalanced...
Stuart showed some pyrotechnics, taken masterly advantage the many spaces that Peter left him, playing solo upon solo without ever repeating himself. From his multi-effects board he indeed drew a number evocative souic inventions...
Peter started out a little unconcentrated, with too many uncertainties on piano that distracted from the beauty of the first songs. Things improved during the guitar set (finally he has returned to the acoustic guitar, abandoning the electric with which he had, over the last few years, massacred various pieces live), but just as the atmosphere had begun to warm up, there came an inexplicable pause of 20 minutes to cool the enthusiasm down again.
Altogether however an enterprising Hammill in some long vocal cadences and (ahem) in some semi/solistic passages on piano. The set list you already: Piano: The siren song Easy to slip away Nothing comes Unrehearsed A better Time Guitar: Comfortable Nightman Patient pause Guitar:
Amnesiac Shingle Song Like Veronica Piano: Touch and Go Bubble Faculty x Stranger Still Encore: Still Life. In my opinion a slightly unbalanced set, with too many recent pieces (8 out of 16 were drawn from the last four albums) and with the same old songs presented two years ago at the Air Terminal Ostiense.
It should also be emphasized that for many of the more recent pieces it was the live premiere, which gave Peter and Stuart a little extra difficulty.
