Hi Folks,
Forfar Family News is in a new format as a way to update you on the ongoing family history research of the Scott-Dalgity descendants that trace their connection to Forfar Scotland.  There are now many family names among descendants, and all share a connection to Scotland through Forfar - thus the name.

Welcome and all best wishes this Easter.

Success continues to be made with the discovery that a 10th generation now lives in North America - with relatives in 24 states and several provinces.  The youngest was born on Feb 18th this year and the oldest is 91.

The discovery in March of 300 photographs dating from 1840's to 1940's in a hidden drawer has been a major find - and show us images of relatives who had only been names before.
Included are a daguerreotype that was taken between 1842 and 1845, the earliest photograph yet found in the family.

Most images are identified - an example of the type of material is an album telling of the village life in Novato, CA in 1906 from the family of Alexander Dill Scott.  Gradually the images are being scanned and added. Initial pages from the secret drawer collection are located on the following pages:

John Scott of Woolwich (1800-1876)

The news of the arrival of a headstone for the unmarked grave of our common ancestor Serg. David Scott in Halifax Nova Scotia is told through

This Easter marks the first anniversary of a new connection.  Easter 2000 was a special occasion, when a tentative connection between the two founding branches of the family was confirmed.   The story of that connection on Easter morning has been told before - yet it may be new.
Finding lost connections: Thomas F. Scott
The effort made between the two branches (sons of the Scott-Dalgity marriage living in Boston & Pittsburgh) to stay in touch during the 1800's faced great difficulty before the start of reliable postal service.  Relatives continued over a lifetime to search for each other and eventually through a chance sighting of an item in a newspaper, the reunification of the two brothers took place in their old age - around 1870.  The story of their connection remains an inspiration as I learn of their lives and that of their descendants. It continues to be a great pleasure to meet relatives from both branches and to share an interest in our common history.

Recently more biographies have been added, as have many images and letters. These are listed through the following index pages:

Last week family friends in Edinburgh, Scotland who have remained in touch with us since my parents lived in Scotland in 1948, hearing of our ancestral connection to Forfar e-mailed to tell of their own connection through a brother-in-law who is a native Forfarite.

We love to hear from you.
Sincerely,  Ian Scott
