Hi Folks,
New Year's Greetings 2002 -  To all family and descendants of Serg. David Scott and Sarah Jean Dalgity.

Forfar Family News is an update on family history research for Scott-Dalgity descendants and family who share a Scottish connection through Forfar and New Scotland (Nova Scotia) where David and Jeannie settled 200 years ago.

A special New Year's message for 2002 tells the story of The King's Message of 1939.  A framed embroidery of this famous war time message has been passed down within the family and a scanned copy is now available along with the story behind the artifact.

Jessie Helen Scott Christmas brings thoughts of pageants, concerts and special musical events.  We in Charlottetown have enjoyed a variety of services, concerts and a neighbourhood tradition of caroling outdoors to bring music to others who can't travel as easily.

An unknown picture recently identified as Jessie Helen Scott revived a memory for my 90 year old Uncle Fred Scott, of a concert in the village of Ste. Croix, Nova Scotia. The story of that concert during the 1890's and the brave little girl from California with the golden locks, is now available.

Christmas is a time for sharing, and it was the generosity of a fifteen year old child, Alger Scott Sr. in 1906 who created Christmas albums that told of life in his village of Novato, CA.

Two album survived in Nova Scotia and copies of the images in these albums were returned 95 years later to grandchildren and children of Alger Sr.  For son Alger Jr., now in his eighties, these were the first he had seen of his father as a boy.

Novato CA - Scott family 1901
The same year as the pleasant pictures of idyllic village life were taken the same young photographer, also captured images of the ruins left after the great San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906.

Family stories indicate he was able to sell his pictures, and possible the early venture into photojournalism financed the albums.  The 1906 Christmas album have been mentioned in previous editions, but in case they are new, the link is included.

. Christmas is also a special for family friends. A friendship forged in Edinburgh in 1947 by my parents continues today. This picture from the Davidson family shows modern Scotland where New Year's is celebrated as Hogmanay.
The news today also indicates that - Scotland welcomed in the New Year with hundreds of thousands of Hogmanay revellers taking to the streets of Edinburgh and Glasgow. About 100,000 people gathered in each city as fireworks at midnight heralded the beginning of 2002.

Biographies, pictures and letters continue to be added. These are listed through the following index pages:

All Best Wishes for a great 2002, Ian Scott
