A Bemister family gathering at the home of Martha and Lorne Innes in Port Credit, Ontario on June 6, 1998 saw relatives from four or five provinces and two states arrive for a casual evening getting to know new found relatives and sharing information on family history.

As the first major gathering of the descendants  of Mary Willis (1747-1832) & John Bemister (1749-1838) of Corfe Mullen, England, this was also an occasion for the announcement that a full family reunion would be held in Newfoundland in 1999, in Carbonear where the family had first settled.
