Born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia in 1842,
Daniel DeWolf Scott where his namesake grandfather, Daniel
DeWolf was a
prominent local figure. Published histories indicate that DeWolf
was descended
from Mayflower colonists in New England but contact with the Mayflower
Society has proven those to be undocumented. After losing his
mother
(Catharine Ann DeWolf) when young Daniel was three, his father
continued
to operate a store at "Scotts' Corner" possibly until Daniel was
seven,
when the family relocated circa 1849 to Boston, .
Daniel moved back to Nova Scotia where his
son George A. Scott was born in 1863, in Pugwash, an area where
DeWolf relatives lived. Listings of Massachusetts soldiers who
served
in the Civil War indicate that Daniel D. Scott enlisted and
served during the Civil War. His brother Capt. John Adams Scott
is also
known to have served during the Civil War. Daniel eventually
establishing his young family in Dorchester, Mass. This page
began as a collection of photographs and eventually more
information on Daniel's life emerged which led to the rewriting
of family history. The story of his life is best told in chapter
2.1 of the Family From Forfar.
