Found in a
secret drawer
in Nova Scotia 95 years after it was sent there to a grandmother, the
album tells of life for a pioneering family in Novato, CA where Alexander
Dill Scott had moved from Nova Scotia, 24 years before. The album sent
to Dill's mother Jane from his son and wife tells of their life in a rural
village. A second almost identical album was sent to an aunt living
in Petite Riviere, NS and upon her death it was given to Scott relatives in
Ste Croix, NS. Although similar the albums have different views of
some scenes and each has unique images thus the best images from each album
have been scanned, and grouped by themes in a series of pages.
As well as the twenty five images in each album there were about 40 related
images sent over a number of years from the Novato family to their Scott
relatives, living in the boyhood home of Dill Scott in Ste Croix. The combined
collection of 90 images tell of the life of Dill, Frances, Jessie and Alger
Scott as well as giving insight into village live of Novato a century ago
by one of the first families to settle there and build a community through
their own efforts.
