Alexander Dill Scott (1860-1945) established himself in Novato, California in 1884, and was instrumental in establishing a bank within the commuity and serving on the board. Active in his local church as well pictures show him in as a member of a church choir.

In a somewhat contrived pose - likely a portrait photographer attempting to evoke the sense of Christian brotherly love - Alexander Dill Scott, is seated close to a clergyman friend.

This particular pose appears dated today, although the creating of contrived groupings and gestures, remains a hallmark of the church directory trade among photographers.
