PUBLIC ADVOCATE SEEKS RECALL ELECTION AGAINST MAYOR PEAK

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- Public advocate Michael Idrogo, a citizen of San Antonio, seeks a recall election against San Antonio Mayor Howard Peak.

Michael Idrogo went to City Council Chambers on Thursday (11 December) to speak at the "Citizens to be Heard" session at 5:00 P.M. Political maneuvering on an ordinance for annexation grew into a filibuster by one of the council members.

Idrogo fully supports the use of the filibuster because the Mayor and a few other council members are ignoring the citizens and other council members while "ram-rodding" their own agenda.

Michael Idrogo was preparing to once again speak in opposition to the plans to "steal" the Sunset Depot away from public passenger train service. The current city government is attempting to convert the Sunset Depot into a saloon.

Idrogo, and other citizens, patiently waited for the council member to complete his filibuster; while Peak and councilman Bannwolf were attempting to find some way to defeat the procedure. At 7:00 P.M. a number of council members walked away from their chamber positions and someone yelled, "You don't have a quorum!" to the filibustering council member; the council member called for a quorum three times.. whereupon Mayor Peak went to his chair and spoke, "We don't have a quorum so the meeting is adjourned until next week." ..LEAVING MICHAEL IDROGO AND THE CITIZENS TO BE HEARD without an ability to enter their concerns into the record for this Council Chamber meeting.

"Peak and various council members ignore what the Citizens have to say.. they have ignored my 'right to petition government' over objections to the stealing of the Sunset Depot away from passenger train service."

"Peak has blown it for the last few Council Chamber meetings.. Citizens to be Heard scheduling is also ignored and hasn't usually been carried out until two or three hours behind schedule. This was the last straw. It's time for a recall election on Mayor Howard Peak. I need 10 percent of qualified voters to sign a petition. They can call 733-9555 to find out where they can get a petition to sign."
