Just tooling along in the '66 one day when I realized that it had a "bog". Darn. Gotta adjust that carb again...

SOLEX 30 PICT-1 CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES:

a) take a walk to the rear of the car, stopping briefly to pick up a small flathead screwdriver.

b) Open the engine lid. (Decklid, rear hatch)

Before we begin to adjust that carb, the timing and valves should be set. There is another FAQ for that...also, the car should be fully warmed up. Look down into the top hole of the carb to be sure the flap in there is fully open. It's important.

Before we begin, let's get our terminology down. The CARBURETOR is that grey thing right there in the middle of all that nameless other stuff. It is underneath that big black thing (the air cleaner, which, by the way, has OIL in it. So don't just lay it in the front seat haphazardly).

There is a lever on the left side front with a cable connected to it. We will call that the THROTTLE LEVER.

Right there on the throttle lever is a small screw. This is the IDLE ADJUSTMENT SCREW.

The idle adjustment screw rests on a strange-looking flat piece with cuts in it we call the FAST IDLE CAM.

Directly beneath the fast idle cam on the left side of the carburetor you will see a screw with a spring wrapped around it. This is the VOLUME CONTROL SCREW.

O.K., let's begin:

1) Turn the IDLE ADJUSTMENT SCREW in or out to set the idle at 850 RPM.

2) Turn the VOLUME CONTROL SCREW in slowly until the engine speed begins to drop, then turn it out until the engine runs at its highest idle speed. Then turn it out 1/4 turn from there.

3) Set the idle back down, if necessary, again with the IDLE ADJUSTMENT SCREW.

So the sweet Prince and the lovely Princess drove off into the sunset without a hint of roughness or "bog" to live happily ever after until the Prince got busted for not paying his inheritance taxes...
