The Royal Enfield Manual
- by Pete Snidal (C)2002
The Parts Section
The CD will have two parts sections: the first covering the Indian
Enfields of Today. The second will be the Redditch Parts Section.
Here is the index page. Two of the links work in this sample - the
lines underscored in black are also links on the CD.
The Redditch Parts Section
These are a series of scannings from an old Redditch Parts Book.
Although for the MKII frame model, it is included in this manual for two
reasons. First, for nostalgia purposes - the last of the Redditch
Bullets certainly deserve their place in history, although far
outnumbered by their Indian counterparts, and second as a guide to
nomenclature for the purpose of understanding my Canadian slang terms
for spanners, gudgeon pins, etc. It is also a piece of history which
will serve to point out how few differences there are between the
Redditch models of 40 yrs + ago, and today, in 2003, in India.
The MkII frame, incidentally, was only begun in 1957/8. The Bullets
from 1949 until then were pretty well identical to the REM Bullet -
only the frame and a few
appurtenances were changed; the majority of parts, and all the engine
parts were the same as produced until the end of the century in India.
