Unabomber
April 13, 1996

Reevus, don't worry. If I move to Chapel Hill, I promise I'll bring my computer with me and you both can still reach me at the same e-mail address. That's another wonderful thing about computers and the internet: just as they can bridge vast distances to make someone hundreds of miles away seem like he's right next door, they can also make your next door neighbor seem like just another site out there in cyberspace.

It's just another example how the continued rise of and dependence on technology will be the ruin of humanity. Oops, I'm sorry. Guess I've been reading too much of that Unabomber Manifesto. They have the full text of it at the USA Today web page (www.usatoday.com) and, boy, you want to talk about snooze city? I didn't get too far into the rambling 35,000 word dissertation but I think the gist of it was that Mr. Kaczynski hated technology because as a hermit living in a one room cabin in rural Montana with no electricity or running water he was jealous because he didn't have any!

By the way, the FBI said that they had to move in sooner on Kaczynski than they wanted because CBS was about to air a story saying that Kaczynski was the suspected Unabomber. Hello! Where did the FBI get the idea that someone living alone, with no electricity and no car could be tipped off to an FBI investigation of him by a TV news broadcast?

One more thing. How do you think the tourism industry in Montana is doing right now?

I'm feeling a little guilty that I was trying to read things like the Unabomber Manifesto while I should have been doing things like clean my filthy bathroom so I better go do that.

Could you e-mail me some Pine-sol?

Take care,

JMcQ

P.S. I've never slept with a pillow on my head. I've slept with a cat on my head but not a pillow so I don't think it's necessarily a family trait but, hey, maybe I'm the mutant.
