NEW PUPPY WELLNESS
Puppies are usually presented for initial examination between 6-8 weeks of age. Multiple vaccinations are necessary due to "maternal antibody protection". Puppies receive antibodies against many viruses from their mother's milk. These antibodies actually prevent vaccinations from working, if they are present in sufficient quantities at the time of vaccination. These antibodies loose their protective levels between 6-16 weeks of age. This is the reason why puppies receive so many initial vaccinations.
The diseases we vaccinate against and the "letter" in the vaccine terminology are as follows:
Distemper-D
Canine Parvovirus-CPV
Leptospirosis-L
Canine Infectious Hepatitis-H or A2
Parainfluenza-P
Coronavirus-CVK
RECOMMENDED VACCINATION SCHEDULE IS AS FOLLOWS:
Age 6 Weeks DA2P/CVK/CPV
